I suspect there's issues at that price. Bondo? Frame repair? I did send a message to the seller for a kick.

It probably has those aftermarket quarter panels I saw a few years ago. I don't think they had cutouts for the marker lights. Seller inherited it from his brother.

didn't know they made after market panels for 69's,,I know there has been some metal work around the rear tires on my car and a little bondo, but after sitting for 30 yrs and no rust or bubbles showed up I left it alone. lots of little dents ,but no rust...even as a driver 6500 is pretty darn cheap imho,,but depends on the floors ,trunk, and frame,,even though at that price you could almost strip it down and start over looks like most stuff is all there ,nice to see it was saved anyways and on the road

I saw them on eBay years ago and they looked pretty cheaply made. Of course this car may not have them and maybe the original holes were filled in.

I used the same panels in 1984.

When you don't have any other option.

They were full length but did not have the proper contours.

If the frame is good, to me, 1/4s are not a deal breaker

Nice price, but bring a Spot-Rot magnet. I would be astounded if that thing didn't have cheese in it. I remember those cars being rusty at 4 or 5 years old as daily drivers.

To put it into perspective, that money is the same amount I spent on maintenance on my high-miles daily driver last spring, which I ended up replacing anyway after the balancing shaft locked up the engine a week after I replaced the timing chain.

I have know for a long time that cars/trucks from the East even now have rust probs after a couple years..have always been told its all the salt the east use ? did have a 74 nova that was really bad half way around the bottom of the whole car,so I stay away from them / east cars that is..!!

Even with todays better metals etc new vehicles don't last long here unless they are undercoated/oil sprayed. Especially trucks. I've seen 5 year old trucks that need frame work.

Suprizes me that they use that much salt.? maybe more ice there due to lake effect snow ? its also expensive ,...what I don't like is the car lots ship them all over to other citys ..when I see a car/truck with surface rust and only a couple years old I know where it came from..I am sure theres a reason why they use so much..?

The thing about trucks is that despite their high purchase costs they still aren't built all that well.  Any time I'm under one of them I'm surprised that little appears to have changed in the past 20 years.

Other than the Fords with their multi-material bodies, there hasn't been much advancement in the corrosion-reduction fields on any of them.

Cars are a different story - back when I was a kid in the seventies, it was quite common to see a 5 or 6 year old vehicle with quarter panels flapping in the wind.  Every now and then you'd see a car sitting on the road with frame rails broken and a pile of rust underneath.  Nowadays, it's common to see 10 year old cars with little upper body corrosion.  Most of it started from stone chipping, but general body materials and design have improved vastly over the past few decades.  Western cars are still obviously better due to their dryer climate, but I think the gap has closed a little.

The main differences between the east coast and the prairies as far as vehicle corrosion goes is the following:

- Humidity is typically higher on the coast due to our proximity to the ocean.

- Winter temperatures in the prairies are typically much lower and more consistent than on the coast.  It is said that typical road salt isn't effective for melting ice when the temperatures are below -10C - thus crushed stone to increase friction on ice is typically used in the prairies, whereas our coastal temperatures often are above -10C, so salt is used to melt ice and get down to bare roads when possible.  Out west I understand that it's not unusual to run on top of a layer of ice on the roads (I recall doing just that in Northern Ontario some years back - the ice looked like pavement, but whiter).

- Additionally, temperatures fluctuating around the freezing point causes a lot of freeze-thaw cycles, therefore requiring more frequent road salt application.  If we have a winter rain, it washes the salt from the roads which necessitates additional road salt applications.

That's generally my experience in NS - I know it varies somewhat depending on locale.  It's not really accurate to assume all of the "east" is the same, especially considering that Ontario and Quebec are often considered to be "east" as well.  (they are west for me)

I might next week.

Thursday if can.

Looks like the empty spot in the shop, beside my car, is now spoken for so this one is not for me.

The frame is what I want to see.

It's not so bad, really.  You learn how to protect your daily drivers from rust, and you store away your summer cars, just like most people in Canada.

Other than that it's a great place to live, near the ocean.  I don't think I could live away from the coast now - I would miss it too much.

Sorry for the derail - the convertible posted looked like a great deal, even with the quarter panel issues.  I would definitely have looked at it if it were closer to me, but looks like somebody else thought the same as the ad is gone...
