Saskatchewan Thatcher wagon

This one has been sitting for thirty some years so I decided to make it run again just for fun. Thanks to Rock Auto it is very affordable for all the parts to make it road worthy again.57 thacher wagon 002.JPG57 thacher wagon 003.JPG

I had to look it up:

"This is a Saskatchewan phenomenon. They were called "Thatcher Wagons" named after Ross Thatcher who brought in the cheap purple fuel law when he was Premiere. Only farm trucks could use the cheap fuel so a lot of older cars became "farm trucks".

Those front wheels are interesting. Any idea what brand they are?

What a quintessential Canadian period piece!  Thatcher wagon with a frost shield still on the side glass!

I had never heard of Thatcher wagons 'till I started reading this board... I love it!  You'll certainly never hear of them on any of the US sites.

Did a quick search and found one made from a '60 Olds at this site:   https://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanwunsch/16396142255

There doesn't seem to be much out there on the net otherwise.  Has anybody written a history on them?  I'd love to see more examples.

The nicest ones I have seen were made out of staitionwagons, then you had a tailgate.

The front rims are a stamped steel design, Ansen I think. I will see if I can find a name on them.

I want to re-state, this would make a very unique feature car. It's a very unique Canadian Pontiac, completely represents the theme of this site.

I LIKE IT !!! and i agree with Carl on the C.P. feature.......... why not. The rear doors should be welded up to make her more likable. This 57 looks fairly clean and i for one say it should be finished off in its present theme.

Man oh man what work it was to blend in that rear glass configuration. I commend the guy who did that. Cheers.

It rocks! I'd put on it's original rims, no hubcaps.
