How long does it take you to get bored of your car?

The Wifes 2008 HHR SS is over 360,000 km. I still enjoy driving it.with very few major repairs to this point, planed to keep driving it. A local dealer just got a 2010 identical to hers with only 123,000 kms for $8900. A lot for a 10 year old car but they not making new ones like this

If a daily driver is super reliable I plan to keep them as long as possible. Collector cars? Sometimes 1 season and I have the urge to buy something else!

If I like my daily driver and/or collector car I like to have it as long as possible. It's like an old pair of shoes, way more comfortable than the pain of breaking in something new.

My track record is that I've owned and licensed over 200 cars, trucks and motor bikes over the last 40 years of legal driving. I love them all and as soon as I have one I want another.

 Congrats on having a fun & rare ride!!

I have only one important question;

Auto or stick?

I went with my brother and his wife when he back to back test drove an HHR SS (auto) and Caliber SRT;
We were disappointed with the performance of the HHR - and we both knew it was detuned over 50hp from the five speed;
I came to understand that shortly after his test drive GM changed the tune on automatic equipped HHR SS's, yielding something like an additional 20hp.
(my brother bought the Caliber - the nearly 80hp difference between the two, and increased rear seat room in the SRT were a one-two knockout as far as he was concerned.

About a year later, I ended up buying a Cobalt SS.

My Cobalt SS is the same platform, and same drivetrain as an HHR SS (assuming your HHR has the five speed);
I have never thought about getting rid of it, I have had ALOT of fun with it too, arguably too much fun.

GM definitely stopped making cars like ours;
The current vehicles that get our engine are much heavier - post-restructuring GM shifted engines up a class, so that compacts now get tiny-er engines, and our turbo 2.0L goes in midsized cars.
Even the Camaro (which weighs #500 more than my car) doesn't come with as much power as my car had with the GM stage 1 performance kit installed.

 mine is the Auto and yes the hp is dropped a lot but that is only for 1st and 2nd gear. A lot of people went to the 5 spd for all the ponys. The GM stage one kit in the Auto gives you the full hp in all gears. Yes, these cars are fun to drive

I still love my 2006 GMC reg. cab, big box. I've owned it since new and never get sick of it.

My hot rods I kept for a while....

55 Chevy....17 years
62 Pontiac....21 years
51 Ford F1.....20 years

My daily drivers, I usually bought as cheap as possible, so only lasted a few years. Never had a new vehicle....The Last minivan we had, was 3 years old and we kept it 10 years. The 2015 we bought last year, I hope lasts 10

Love my 2015 Yukon & hope to keep it a long time. As for classics usually about 12 to 13 yrs [ other than 2 I lost in garage fire] they were short lived!!!
