Do any of you know how to decode protect-o-plates?
I stumbled on this in another forum and quickly saw the engine unit number & engine code was on the POP, but am wondering if anyone can decode the remaining characters, or what they are supposed to mean?
Is it a fair guess that the 83319 is the zip code for Mr Cota's residence? (when did Canada go away from Zip codes?)
I am guessing that 82044 was one of Calgary's zip codes...
So the ticker tape appears to have the vehicle owner/purchaser information, and the metal card has the car's vin and EUN; but the following bit's are at this time lost to me:
1970 Formula 400 Carousel Red on black (std) interior "no drivetrain option" car (same base drivetrain as GTO) 1:411 1970 Firebird Formulas originally sold in Canada
1970 Formula 400 Carousel Red on black (std) interior "no drivetrain option" car (same base drivetrain as GTO) 1:411 1970 Firebird Formulas originally sold in Canada
I have a booklet at home on how to decide Protect-O-Plates. 83319 & 82044 are the dealer codes, not a zip code.
Canada implemented Postal Codes in the very early 70's (I'm guessing 1972) and prior to that they were just a single digit or 2 digit number. My parents house in Willow Park was Calgary 30.
I'd be very interested in seeing this booklet, to see if it correlates with this Buick tag I have - It doesn't appear to have an EUN ect...

I think I have figured out this POP I have here, and it differs greatly from the Pontiac one that I have pictured in the first post (that's one I do not have).
Does anyone know the 1970 Buick rear end codes?
I am guessing NJ is one.
I think i have this figured out, but only 'NJ' (on line 2), and 'JS148' on line one ellude me.
