So presumably these are the cheap ones you'd buy on ebay or some other internet site rather than the ones you'd buy at a reputable parts store?

Same. I sell NGK at work for all kinds of applications but we don't put them in GMs. It's Delco all the way, nothing works better. Not that we haven't tried other brands sometimes, we have.

Stuff like this makes you wonder what kind of jerks would run a manufacturing plant and do stuff like this. It's not something you create at home in your garage...

I am sure that AC doesnt manufacture spark plugs any more. I have purchased AC plugs that have had NGK stamped on the base and AC on the porcelain. Paul

I've heard that too but I'm betting the specs aren't the same, or something. Our dealership has had issues with NGK in GM vehicles, Champion is ever worse. It's ultra rare for us to get a bad GM plug though.

I don't know for sure, but from what I've seen about other counterfeit parts, there's a good chance they originate in China... our great international friends - the impeccable defenders of human rights and democracy... wink

Looks like AC Delco isn't exempt....

Best comment in Corvette forum: "You spent thousands to buy your car. Why would you take a chance to buy counterfeit parts which could ruin your engine?"

No surprise here whatsoever! One would be extremely naïve to think that any particular brand is exempt from fraudulent duplication. Unfortunately, it is the way of our world. One has to do one's research.

Agreed.  Just because they have a GM brand on them, it doesn't mean they can't be faked.

Presumably GM dealers would only purchase Delco plugs directly from GM, so if you buy from the dealer you are most likely OK.  I would think a dealer could lose their franchise if they started pulling stuff like that.

Don't presume anything....years ago I had my Suburban body repaired (accident claim) and the grill replaced by a GM Chevrolet dealer and after close inspection a few weeks later, I discovered

there were no GM logos or numbers on the grill.......it was an after market grill. I'm always suspicious of what the dealer does these days to make an extra buck.

It probably wasnt the dealer calling the shots. The insurance company can request the use of aftermarket parts to lower the repair cost and the body shop would have no choice if they wanted the job. If youre having a collision repair you will need to ask where the parts are coming from, and then complain to the insurance adjuster if you dont want aftermarket parts before the job is started. Exactly, we are forced by the insurance company to use aftermarket stuff. It sucks. If the customer complains then usually they will get genuine parts but so few people know that.

Like politicians who change words,I prefer to call them spurious  not fake.

Carl's Strato Chief is a spurious Poncho.
