73867 makes it a 68 Sd convert for sure and yes only 65 produced. 69 Beaumont and SS chevelles did not use the 38 series numbers as in the past. Check the block to see if it still has the original engine. Could be a transplant as owner might have damaged the original or just some one got new decals in the past and put them on the air cleaner.
Welcome from winnipeg

Thank you sir. what a great place to find for all this information. I will get the block number when I get some time. Also pull the valve covers and check for casting numbers soon enough.
It appears in the interior picture that the key is in the dash, not on the steering column so it must be a 68.
I looked at that and agree Carl. I mean I hate pinning the whole thing on an air cleaner decal but there is no doubt Astro-Jet is the 1969 marketing branding on the engines, the only year that term was used.
After so many years have passed I suppose there are innumerable possible explanations for this discrepancy to appear. On the surface it does raise the possibility of an engine change or a simple as an air cleaner lid decal replacement. Who knows at this point until we get an engine number and GMVVS documents.
There could be many many possibilities. I will keep digging around the car and post some numbers when I can sir. Thanks again
If you get a chance post a pic of the cowl tag it might show some option codes on it. Would be interesting to see if it has L34 350 hp engine or L35 325 hp engine on it. probably has M40 for turbo 400 trany on it for sure. Probably A51 and D55 for buckets seats and console.

Welcome from Lower Mainland BC! Can't wait to see some more pics, whether 68 or 69, hard to believe that 'barn finds' like this are still out there...so cool!
