I don't know my A bodies real well. Is it possible to have the frame side mounts bolted on in the wrong spots? Are there multiple holes in the crossmember?

I couldn't get my parts book page to sit flat enough in my scanner to copy it properly, so I hope this helps.

Top of the page, 3990914 "See note A" and then down to Bracket, Engine Mounting Frame 3872816 and 3872815 frame mounts (396)

I know that on some years of Chevelles there are different frame mounts depending on which engine. The big blocks and some 350 small blocks have different frame mounts that use different engine mounts than a 307.

Was just reading some old posts on another forum and they were having the same problem with the redesigned mount and had to revert back to the original style mounts or like your parts book says switch to big block frame mounts.

The crazy thing is, when I put my 427 in I used NOS mounts with the lock on them and it fit perfectly. The frame side engine mounts are still the original 283 mounts. However, we are talking B body, not A body.

Notice how your parts book says use 1 Right hand frame bracket or 1 left hand. Like you only need to change one to a big block bracket .

I would like to stick with the locking engine mounts so looks like I will have to change out the frame mounts

If you have 283 frame brackets you would need 283 mounts. I have seen the locking style mounts for both applications.
