I'm guessing I'm one of the younger guys;
I had absolutely no idea what that was.
The first two posts made me think it was a replacement glass tube for a level... as in carpetners level - but I have never heard of any levels where the glass parts could be replaced - the levels I have certainly cannot be "serviced".

I'd say you'd have to be in your mid to late 50'd to recognize it. I remember just as I was getting into cars, they basically were phasing the device out.

Well, Im 61 and remember when the delco eye was in the top of the battery, but have never seen one removed. But I have another stumper for you. I bought some old tools and this was in the box. I had to look it up online to find out what it was.
I added a picture to help explain how this tool works. The yokes on this universal dont have holes for the cups but have the trunnions made as part of the yoke. Because there isnt a cross in this style, the plates hold the cups on and are bolted together. The tool holds the plate with the studs in the ball of the torque tube so that you can use both hands to bolt the plates together. I have seen these u joints at flea markets, but have never worked on them. 1929 to 1936 chev apparently.
