Has anyone ever used one of the numerous auto carriers or shipping companies to bring a vehicle out of the US? Just wondering if anyone has used a certain carrier and how it turned it out?
I think many of these auto shipping companies are brokers and contract various carriers to pick up and drop off. I have read numerous reviews on different companies and it seems like a lot of bad reviews. I think if I used a company, I would just have the vehicle dropped in the US close to the border and then go pick it up myself but just wondering if anyone has any experiencein using one of the many, many auto carriers.
Haven't used a carrier to cross the border. But recently drove a newly purchased car across after using a broker ( $150US ) to help with the paper work on the US side. Canadian side was straight forward. If car more than 15 years old the Cdn side is straight forward. Even if not then it's just another step which you'll have to do anyway.

Ive heard good things about this company , they have very nice equipment when I see it on the road. An acquaintance who used them when selling antique vehicles used them a lot and was very happy. www.thorsonsevt.com/

Different carriers are licensed for different things. I know when I was looking to sell my 454 Laurentian to the USA I contacted Mackie & TFX. If I recall, Mackie was good to go both in and out of the USA, whereas TFX was only licensed to bring USA to Canada, not the other way.

I think the cross border rules are that a foreign carrier cannot pick up and drop off in a foreign country, so a Canadian carrier can pick up in Canada, drop off in the us, then they can pick up in the us but then only drop that us load in Canada. Works the same Both ways across the border.

Good to know. I thought that I would have it dropped in North Dakota just across the border and then just go get it.
I was checking out Uhaul car hauler trailer and you can book a unit in just about any city, pick it up in that city down south far, far away and the drop it off in Wpg when you are done. $390 US and I think you have it for 6 days if I recall correctly. I figured that''s not a bad deal and when you book it, it is guaranteed to be there when you have scheduled it. Hook it up to your vehicle, load your new toy and way you go!
Although not across the border, a friend paid for enclosed transport from BC to Ontario and when the car arrived it was covered in bird droppings. The driver that delivered the car said he picked it up at a storage area in Toronto, and said that at times depending on the logistics that there may be two or more carriers involved in a delivery across Canada.
I believe that is correct about Canadian carrier not being able to hsul it from a point in the US to another point in the US. My cousins own a trucking company here in Morris. They've told me that sometimes when I've asked about getting big part or cars hauled.
As far as pulling a U-Haul trailer with your truck, make sure that your truck meets the specs that they require for pulling a car trailer. I think they require a 3/4 ton or at one point they did anyway.

I have used TFX and Mackies both. Hired my own broker for cross border. Mackies was more expensive but not by much. Loved the staff at mackies very friendly and great to deal with. No complaints with TFX
