I have nothing but total respect for people that have this kind of talent. That Tommy Ivo four buick exhibition dragster brings back a ton of memories as a kid growing up on HOTROD magazine. I was mesmerized by this car as a kid and i still am today. Tommy was an amazing builder/driver and a very likable person to this day as well. Thanks for sharing.

Agree George......TV Tommy was a real showman AND serious competitor.

If I'm not mistaken Don Prudhomme started off on Tommy's crew.

Yes, he worked for Tommy in 1960 before he joined the very famous Greer, Black, Prudhomme dragster team. That is what really put him on the map. Of course the Black in the team was the engine God Keith Black. Speaking of black, not that it actually matters. Don is an African American or black, something he has always kept hidden. Not that it matters he was one of the best drivers ever. Another black or African American driver/builder that i always had a lot of respect for was Malcolm Durham and his long series of Chevrolet based "Strip Blazers". Cheers.

Very cool!

I recall my Dad taking me to see the Wagonmaster in the showroom of the Pontiac/Buick dealership he worked in sometime in the late sixties or early seventies.  It was in town for some exhibition runs at the local track (Drag City in Sackville) and it made quite an impression on me at the time.

I understand that under the body it was the original showboat car.

As far as i am concerned the Tommy Ivo four Buick drag car is the best and foremost four engine car for drag racing..... period. For land speed records though, there are a number of them. For drag racing though, Tommy had it time and time and time again. I love listening to the man speak about how and why he built the car in the first place. Also the reality that you had to have major league stones to drive one of those monsters down the strip doing that kind of speed. That and for many other reasons, i have a ton of respect for Mr. Tommy Ivo. Cheers.

Yeah spinning all 4 wheels would make it hard to keep it going straight!  I recall the Hurst Hairy Olds had similar issues with traction and control - I believe it smacked the wall pretty good at one time or another...

The Hurst machine was a handful but to be fair, Tommy Ivo was a far superior driver to the Hurst guy.
