How things work and how they don't

Too much Canadian poncho biggrin

My mother said to me once,

"You don't really own it unless you can tear it apart and see how it works"

I was about 5 years old.

This is my 2012 I-7 processor,

Last year this computer started acting up.

Took it in to a shop and they said it just needed new "paste"

For most of us, that's the junk between the processor and the cooling fan.

Paid a few bucks and got a few months before it acted up again and was put on a shelf.

Couldn't resist tearing it apart and look what I found,

This has been cleaned.

The off coloured area looks burnt.

Must have got super hot at one point.

Computer guys, please chime it.

For fun, I ordered a $30 refurbished matching I-7

Worst case, $30 of fun biggrin

I had that happen on a 1984 Toyota Camry "computer" looked like a coffee stain. Was caused by humidity forming on the board and caused an electrical arc. A computer guy told me to clean it with a toothbrush under the hot water tap, dry it completely with a hairdryer, let sit overnight, and try it. It worked perfectly after that. Humidity came from no seal on the case holding the board, had to seal it properly.
