2014 GMC V6 won’t start

it belongs to a neighbor, it wont even roll over. Its a great shape, has about 125000 kms, well maintained.

Headlights very bright, battery seems fine. In park, when you turn the key to on, all the dash lights come on, when you turn it to start, all the dash lights go off, including the headlights, is that normal? No clicking noise, no noise at all when you engage the starter.

I didnt have a lot of time to. Look at it and all these sensors and gizmos I know little about. If it was an old car, Id say a bad ground somewhere?

i have an one code reader, no codes.

Its been sitting a couple of weeks unused, could it be a bad battery? They had it boosted by CAA, it acted the same, no start, no noise, didnt roll over. Ran when parkedbiggrinbiggrinbiggrin and worked great.

Any experience with this modern stuff or suggestions?

no sure how cold it is there but I had a kia do the same thing only when it was cold after talking to a lot of mechanics and lots of time on kia forums, came to the conclusion that when it was cold that a wire somewhere would contract from the cold and possibly pull on a pin in a connector making limited or no contact.so next time it did it I put a heater inside the cab and after it warmed up a little inside the it would start. needless to say I traded it off on my ranger

If CAA was able to boost it, then it may be battery related, especially when it won't turn over.

Easy enough to check the battery but even a very low one will click the starter.

Had the same problem on our 2010 Equinox V6 and it was corroded battery terminals.

It would start on a boost but not by itself.

Seem to remember a problem with ignition switches on some GM's years ago - something about having

to much weight on the key chain that eventually causes damage to the switch. The boosting may have just

been enough to overcome a bad contact. Did you try to start it in neutral?

Thanks for the replies, I did try starting it in neural and jiggled the shifter. I suppose you have to have your foot on the brake too? I tried that too, not a gig?
BJ, when you are starting your truck, do the dash lights and headlights go off while the starter is engaged?

No cold weather here yet btw.

My 2015 gmc had the battery die with no warning. I was in a campground for a few days and tried to leave and it wouldnt start. It did go with a boost, but had to leave the cables on quite a while to get enough into the truck battery so it would crank. I blamed the dead battery due to my camper being plugged in and killing it. So drove quite a while coming home and stopped at a restaurant for supper. I unplugged the camper when we stopped, when we came out an hour later the battery was dead. There was a Canadian Tire next door, so I bought a battery. I havent had a problem since. The original battery had a 36 month warranty, it was two months past when it failed.

Yes, just went out and checked - all goes dark when starting.

As you probably know boosting usually will overcome the resistance of corroded terminals.

But add an old battery (mine was 9 years old) and it wouldn't start w/o the boost.

I replaced the 9 year old battery with a new AC Delco with the winter coming on.

(Also replaced the battery on our 2005 Dodge Magnum (never winter driven) with a new

AC Delco. It was over a $100. cheaper than a Mopar battery).

Most thoughts are battery or loose connection, will look there. Thanks.

Broken wire at the starter solenoid or cracked solenoid switch. This happened to my 2000 Silverado at 120,000 k at a grocery store and I had to tow it home and get it on my hoist to inspect it. The starter was still good and only replaced the switch.

Are there any aftermarket electrical add-ons on the truck? I had an issue on my 2004 Impala not starting, and had the dash apart and trying every diagnosis I could think of. I finally called a mobile guy who was recommended to me who spent 2 hours with diagrams tracing every circuit that was related. Finally found a bad connection in the fuse panel at left dash. I had removed a satellite radio harness from the car a few days before, where they got power by pushing a connector in with a fuse. When I removed it, it was no longer a tight connection. I got another fuse block from a wrecker. Problem solved.

If the computer cant read the chip in the key, it will turn on the security light and it wont start. Also a copy of the key without a chip wont start the truck. Sometimes a dead battery will cause the security light to come on. The security light looks like a padlock.

If the security light is on you will need a fully charged battery in the vehicle that will not start and a running vehicle hooked up to it with heavy duty booster cables. Do not try to start until it is left hooked up for at least 5 minutes. The dead vehicle may start and then stall immediately. This may happen a few times. When the dead vehicle does start leave the booster cables on for another 5 minutes as this will give the computer time to relearn its codes.

I had to follow this procedure when I would let my 2000 Silverado sit for 6 months with the battery disconnected. The computer thinks the vehicle is being stolen when the battery is reconnected. The battery must be fully charged before reconnecting.
