My wife just finished for the year at work. Before going, she had simple but personalized gifts for co-workers. It makes a difference and people notice when you pay attention to them. One woman had worked there for years and nobody gave her anything, so she burst into tears when my wife gave her something.

Also worth remembering, waiters & waitresses have long memories. Respect is a 2-way street.
