Might be interesting on pavement? Neat rig, Ill wait for a major price drop and some time to determine quality. Id say it will sell big if it proves itself. Same price as a loaded American built 4 door loaded unit?

Turns like a skid-steer. With four motors it would be easy to program that feature. I watched a segment on The National about the popularity of electric cars a week or so ago. I heard the praises of less maintenance etc. etc. It reminded me of the 70s and propane vehicles. Less oil changes, spark plugs last longer due to the cleaner burning fuel and so on. Then the road tax was put on propane and in a few years they have all but disappeared. I can see in a few years electric cars will be taxed by the km of use to make up for lost fuel taxes and then you probably wouldnt be able to give them away.

Ya, I think the oil industry will have something to say and a ton of pull with politicians about EVs behind closed doors.

In my opinion, the model shown is just a "toy truck", like a Ridgeline or Avalanche.

I don't think big oil will be able to stop the EV movement. In fact Petro Canada has just installed EV chargers at quite a few of their locations across Canada. Europe is much farther ahead of North American when it comes to EV's. Tesla just unveiled a Supercharger in England that produces 250kW (current Superchargers are 125kw)  The Model 3 is currently the only Tesla that can accept that size of charger. That equates to about 1000 miles of range in an hour of charging. Since most batteries can only store about 200-250 miles of electricity you can see how fast these chargers are.
I was surprised to find the Tim Horton's in O'Leary PEI has two EV chargers.

It wont be the oil companies,it will be the government. Somewhere I read that the average car owner contributes about $2200 a year in fuel tax, the government will try to recoup the lost revenues somehow.

Meh, most people don't use trucks the way they are supposed to be used anyhow.  They just want to appear more manly while they drive to the mall...

Besides, I don't think this truck will be any slouch - they are advertising an 11,000 lb towing capacity.  https://electrek.co/2018/11/26/rivian-r1t-all-electric-pickup-specs/

The government is quite in favour of the advancement of this technology.  They will just invent another form of taxation (which they are quite good a doing).

Agreed, Todd.  The only government that would try to prevent this technology is the Alberta government - if they decide to diversify their economy over the next couple of decades, once they realize that the world market for oil is going to shrink, they might just jump on board to support it... if it would benefit them.

I think Texas is the state with the most windmills in the US, they are on to which way the wind is blowing, pun intended.

I'm all in favor of Alberta oil, I don't see how our little patch of oil is going to change the rate of oil/fossil fuel consumption in the world, we are a mouse in a world of elephants. In the meantime when we can use our oil, we'll stop sending our money to Russia, Nigeria, Venezuela, Saudi, etc., what's wrong with that. I don't understand why that is not the message out there from the oil patch.

What will change fossil fuel burning is money, if the price goes back to $150 a barrel, maybe those 4 door pickups and large SUV's burning fossil fuels will burn a whole lot less when it goes north of $2/300 for a fillup. When the charge times and range for EV's goes to a convenient place, they'll sell like hotcakes. And with the way gas powered vehicles have gone up in price, they won't be costing any more than those.

In the meantime, converting all personal vehicles to EV's will not replace that much oil, it the planes, trains, ships, and power generation that uses most of our fossil fuels? Plus, oil produces all that plastic formed into all the products we own, including our clothes? Oil ain't disappearing completely very quickly.

I'm talking the long game here... countries like Russia, who have based their economies on oil will be hurting in the long term, but it is likely beyond the lifetimes of many of us here.

In the meantime, if industry comes up with a better alternative to what we are using now, and it becomes economically viable, then I'm all for it.  You can't get stuck in the past...
