Maybe some of us just like to drive older cars?

This copy of an email has been going around websites like Reddit and Jalopnik. Apparently this guy got a new job and not long after got this email from management regarding his vehicle:

It's been a lot of years since I drove anything newer than 10 years old. I wonder what my employers thought of me? furious

Yea, I saw that too Todd. That is just galling.

My take on it is most nice expensive and new cars in the company lot just means the owners are probably in debt. Probably more than they need to, or should be.

Looked at it in a different way...it's the older cars that probably represent sound sound financial practice.

I find the way this letter is written that it's fake.

Having this in "writing" looks like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I think a company would talk face to face with the employee well before sending off

a letter like this. If the car is part of the job (sales representative maybe) it might have some merit,

but I don't think a employer really cares about the car you drive.....what you wear to your job would be another matter.

I'm on the fence as to whether this is fake or not. I do know of people who have a Homeowner's Association that get letters with a similar tone. I got to thinking and I did have one instance where I was talked to about the vehicle I drove. I was a service consultant at a Cadillac/Hummer dealer and was driving an 89 S-10 at the time (this was 2003). It was fairly clean for an 89. I was told by management to park it at the very back of the staff parking lot.

My opinion? Fake. These days there is no HR department in the world that would send out a letter like that. They would just be setting themselves up for a world of problems.

Ya i was reading this and thinking about if i was in that situation how it would play out.  You all know what i drive.

I would love to have a Position at say the Legislative building as an example,  i wouldnt care if i was a vise prez, making 1/2 mill a year, i would still drive what i drive, but i might make it a BB sport deluxe, and still drive the sheet out of it in the winter just to piss everyone offbiggrin

And i would also wager a guess that the guy that got this letter is the most finacially stable and wealthiest employee at that company.  Look up the book titled "the wealthy barber"

 Bingo.

I'd file the letter under "G" for garbage.

These days maybe the real thing to worry about is driving a big gas guzzler 4 door pickup or suv, bad for the environment? PR wise, more environment harm than an old 67 Beaumont. Maybe make everyone drive something like a Sonic or Yaris?

Place my bets on fake news. Not well written, poor format for an "official" record and wouldn't happen in 2020.
like others have said, i'd be more worried about them being in debt too deep with a new car

In my opinion, if this were the case they would concentrate on what the public thinks, whether it is correct or not.  Therefore:  (1) All old cars are bad, (2) Big gas guzzling vehicles are bad, (3) All petrol vehicles are bad, (4) Hybrids are good, (5) Electric vehicles are the best.

You'd need a raise in order to be able to buy an electric car to look good at work, and then another one to actually use in any practical sense.
