Is it worth it to sell parts on Ebay anymore?

I used to go back and forth on E bay. Sold probably 25 items, and bought probably 125.

Have a stellar rating, but am long out of the loop.

Is it worth it to put anything up for BIN any more? And how do you get paid these days?

Thanks, Mark

 Exactly....just yesterday Ebay asked me to answer a few questions about the site and that was one of the things I mentioned.

I told them I won't buy anything on the site unless the shipping was free. Anything "newer" I use Amazon.

And Amazon seems to be getting into a lot of stuff that Ebay also sells. Ebay needs to get rid of this Global shipping that they offer.

It's too costly and takes too long. Now a lot of the shipping costs seem over inflated by the sellers, and I think a lot of buyers are bypassing Ebay.

It's not what it was a few years ago.

You gotta get more than you think to end up with what you want for $.

I recently sold an item to the US for $53 US including shipping. Shipping was $28 Canadian, Ebay took $10.33 Canadian fees and Paypal $3.15 Canadian. I much prefer selling on forums or Kijiji but in this case Ebay was my last resort.

Unless you put an insane price on your item.

Ebay is also a good place to advertise and get exposure for your parts.

I have listed some higher priced items and have had people contact me outside of ebay because they want the part but don't want to pay the ebay price.  I lower the price a bit to make a deal but I don't have to pay the ebays and paypal fees.  I ask people to pay with family and friends.

I just sold a set of 1965 Nova SS trim that way to someone in Puerto Rico.

I find that the best months to sell parts, at the highest price possible, is from January to April.

I haven't sold much on ebay the past couple years, but I've never had a problem. I'd write a good description (pre-typed and then just copy & paste), take some good photo's, get a good idea on shipping, and post the item.

I've sold stuff that went all over USA & Canada. Typically I'd get an online postage quote to send to Florida, add a bit, then list that amount in the ad as the shipping amout.

I actually used to sell on eBay, now affectionatly called "ePay";
The jacked up sellers fees, and paypal fees did me in.
I will not sell on there any more.

I would tend to agree with this;
But, you have to be careful;
eBay does not want any correspondence between sellers and potential buyers outside of eBay controlled messages, so unless you have a store setup which links a non-eBay site, which in turn shows your contact information, you can't really do this.
I concur that between USA-Thanksgiving, and late spring is definitely the time to sell for the most money.

Interesting comment about talking to the seller outside of eBay.
Recently saw an item on eBay, the sellers nickname was the same on both Ebay and CP ( also the province was the same ) so I took a chance and BINGO.
Have to believe we both saved. Sorry eBay!

/\ if ebay catches you doing this, you'll get banned.
I was nearly banned on a couple occasions.

 The way we did it there was no trail. My eBay sign on and CP sign on are completely different.

Being banned on eBay certainly wouldn't be the end of the world.

About ever other month Ebay comes through with some type of promo. Last month it was 50% off sellers fees and in December it was no sellers fees for the first 25 items sold. Even at 50%, you still have to fork over 5% ebay and 3% paypal. Minnesota is one of the states that charges sales tax on internet sales, so anyone buying my stuff has to pay another 7% on top of that. Hard to sell things on there unless it is something someone really wants.

As for selling in the states, the current easiest/best is Facebook groups or marketplace, second would be forums and third Craigslist.
