To think they built like 80,000 65 Catalina 4 door sedans. This one would have been a wolf in sheep's clothing hidden amoungst them.

What, maybe 1 of 2 built maybe! It's like when Dodge made 2- Yes 2- Hemi 4 door Coronets in '66, if I recall.

I'm not convinced it rolled off the line with that combination. As far as I know, all 65-66 full size 4 speed Pontiacs (Canada and US) had a factory tach as standard equipment and there's no sign of this one ever having had a tach.

I'd still drive it with no shame though!

No no, I believe it could be ordered, I just am not convinced this car was built with it. Heck, you could order a tri power 4 speed 65 wagon, I know a guy who has one!

You'd hope this collector would have got the PHS docs to prove it's real before adding it to his collection.

Didn't one of the HEMI's have a plaque on the dash that said "Built for Floyd Garret" or something like that?

I am aware of Floyd Garrett but i do not remember if it was one of his cars. His collection is mostly GM cars.

Speaking of super sleepers, i remember an article in Super Chevy back in the 1980's. The car was a 1963 Chev Impala four door sedan with a 409, two four barrel, four speed and posi traction. The original owner had a large family and still wanted to drag race on the weekend.

Here's a question. How would a theoretical 1965 Canadian Pontiac Parisienne 4 door sedan with a 409/M21/4:11 stand up against this 421 car?

By 65, the 409 was dated and the 421 was upgraded a bunch? Would boil down to specs on each motor? Even going back to past years and times when these cars were raced against each other , lots of cheating happened and specs were not always honest. There are currently street legal original cast iron block 409s that do under 9 seconds with modern internals and 2 carbs. Lots of variables in these head to head challenges?

I hate to say it but i suspect the 421 would bury the 409.

I would agree with you. However, in 1966 I think the tables would be turned if we put our biggest engine against the Stars and Stripes biggest engine.

This is a very cool car. It was written up extensively in the POCI magazine Smoke Signals about 4 or 5 years ago. If I'm not mistaken I think it also ran through one of the big auctions some time after that.

Well, as I can attest, there is nothing quite like a storming moredoor! It catches people off guard.

I like watching it float down over the woops at 3:41, now thats a full size!

Do you think it's authentic John? Does he have the PHS docs? Am I wrong about all 65 Pontiac B body 4 speed cars having a factory tach?

I remember a Super Chevy article on a '62 Impala 4-door sedan that was ordered by a family man in Pennsylvania. It was 2-tone fawn & beige, had wheel covers, whitewalls, radio, 3-in-the-tree, and a 409 / 409! That's dual-quad 11:1 compression solid lifter, with a syncro-mesh (non-syncro low) 3-speed. Chevrolet offered it again in '63 but after warranty replacements they dropped the 3-speed Saginaw from the 409s for '64.

The h.d Warner 3-speeds made it into '65 Big Chevrolet & Canadian Pontiacs with 327s as an option & a requirement with the 409s. I wonder if any 1965 Canadian 409s rolled off the line with the Warner 3-speed?

Somewhere I have seen articles on a black '65 Biscayne 4-door 396-425 & a Regal Red '66 Biscayne 4-door 427-425.

Attached are a couple of pictures I grabbed from a 2005 eBay auction of a worn but original 1966 Impala 4-door factory equipped with L36 427, 4-speed, full instrumentation with dash-top clock, & a/c. The L36 was tops with a/c but at 390 horses it was sufficient.
