This is a very big reason why i love this show. @#$% the belly button engines that are so nickle a dozen. Show case a motor that folks are no longer so bored with. Cheers.

Then of course Todd and George you've certainly watched the Coldwar Motors "Straight Eight Showdown" series? If no you'd love it.

The one dude never lets anyone get a word in and is always talking over everyone. It is difficult to take any of these guys serious and after watching the whole video i realized that i wasted 45 minutes of my life. By the way, i am referring to the second video with the Packard verses Buick showdown nonsense. Cheers.

You're right George. It is kind of long, drawn out and not for everyone. But it is interesting to see them bring back a stuck straight 8, and for sure it's a bunch of guys having a good laugh.

You really had to have been following the channel for a while to appreciate it. Sorry, thought you might enjoy it.

Mark, is there more to this. Do they go beyond what that video represents. Do they ever actually get anything running. Just curious because i would watch it till the end if they actually accomplish anything. Cheers.

Yes! There's 6 parts George. You probably already know, but I'll warn you it's a long series.

Back in the latter 1960s a neighbor 2 doors over was restoring a 1931 Packard dual cowl phaeton by himself in his garage. Packard was a prestigious make in that era that rivaled Cadillac. It had a beautifully detailed straight eight, a 3-on-the-floor, spark retard / advance levers on the steering wheel, big wire wheels & sidemounts. He took me for a spin around the block in the rolling chassis (simpler times, don't try this today unless you are rich enough for the fines). The car had a neat oil dripper system as I recall, as Bruce Cole explained to me. He got it done then bought a 1930 version of the same to restore. Soon he bought a house from the 1800's in the middle of Ancaster with a big garage (presumably for horse & buggy). Somebody made him an offer on the '30 projject that was hard to refuse. Put it to you this way, he no longer had a mortgage. He kept the '31 & refreshed it around '79. It was featured in a movie a few years back.

Now there is the proper way to rebuild a vintage motor. I love it and thanks for sharing.

I remember seeing images on video of a dragster in the 1960's that ran a highly modified version of this motor. With five or six carbs on a log manifold and straight back header pipes. It is wild to see such a big heavy weight like this motor being drag raced in a very light dragster. You have to give loads of credit to guys that thought way out of the box and raced engines other than the usual boring fodder.
