Anybody ever see a station wagon like this before?

I went to the McCormick auction today in Palm Springs and came across this Studebaker wagon. Never ever saw a wagon with this cool roof system. You can bring a pretty tall object home with you. Hopefully will see it go across the block here later this weekend. Anybody ever see one?

I have seen pictures of thos Studebakers, but not in person. They were made to take taller loads. I would be a bit leery of how they would seal in a big rain storm.

Yes, me too, in Turning Wheels magazine (Studebaker club magazine).

There was a fellow that said the same thing when I was checking it out.  He said hoping there is no rain in the forecast. They were known to leak.  My dad had a Stude when I was ready to start school so i have a soft spot for them.

That's the Wagonaire. From 63-66 most Stude wagons had this feature. You could carry a refrigerator upright in those cars.

Yes. Growing up in Ancaster Heights in the sixties there was a '65 Wagonaire 2 blocks from our house. Non-metallic medium turquoise in colour. They sold in in 1972 for a new Chevelle Nomad wagon.

Gordon Grundy was the President of Studebaker Canada and he lived 1.1 kms away from us until he moved to the Carolinas around 1980. I actually used to see him driving around in a bronze '66 Studebaker in the early 1970's. The car must have been a show car because it had a full-width decal in the lower part of the rear window that said "The all-new 1966 Studebaker". My sister dated Mark Grundy, the son (he drove a 'Cuda).

Looking at the Jag XK-120 you posted reminds me of a car a neighbor (here we go again yawn ) that owned one just like it except it didn't have wire wheels, it had steel wheels with hubcaps & factory fender skirts. The Jag owner was a guy in his 20s around 1971. Later I learned he bought it from a neighbor that had an estate next door (our neighborhood was built around the Dalley estate). He sold it in 1972 to buy a new 1972 Super Beetle, which was traded in 1976 for a new Grand Prix.

The GMC mid sized SUV had that sliding roof feature a few years ago, and I remember the Stude wagons back then with them as well.

Oh Cameron its good to hear another chapter come out from that memory of yours. Id probably be more accurate in saying a snap shot from your memory. Thanks for sharing. It took 65 years for me to even be aware of one.

A once great car company, it is a shame that this car could not help save Studebaker. It was all over after 1964, except for two years of production in Hamilton, Ontario with Chevrolet engines. Studebaker had a grand history and made many real quality cars over those many years. I will take a Hawk with that stout Stude motor any day.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob (Ponchoheart) this morning and he showed me this beauty truck that I hadnt seen yesterday. It was very nicely done and is quite rare.

 So true.

I'll take an early '50s Champion.

That REO has a ton of real estate under the hood to work on the engine! Nice truck!

So many of the vehicles are significant or classic. I love the eclectic collection of varied vehicles. That '56 Oldsmobile 98 Motorama car is really fascinating with the styling details that subtly foretold of the upcoming themes for the next few years. How it survived we may never know.  That REO truck is also pretty cool, being a h.d. pickup is rare. Also REO stands for Ransom E. Olds, since he started that company after forming Oldsmobile.
