My noisy neighbors

This time of year we get hundreds of geese and ducks at the river behind my place. I enjoy heading down there to unwind this time of year. It's usually too buggy and the grass is quite tall in the summer so I try to enjoy it as much as I can. These guys did a flyby:

I wouldn't mind setting up a "floating" walkway to the river from the woods at some point as I'm told there's good trout in there.

You are lucky to be there Todd. I could make a vid, but it would be of a different kind of honking.

Agreed, we had a coulee running through our back yard on the farm and it was so neat to see ducks, geese etc. Not so neat when the beavers showed up though. They didn't usually stay long though. I discouraged their efforts to set up a residence there. Always wanted to stock the water with fish but our winters get too cold for them to survive apparently. Years ago when my brother came home from Boy Scout camp he brought some baby painted turtles and released them there. We saw turtles for many years after but eventually I think they must have all died off.

Hi  Todd,

I guess you are right,  it is nice to hear them ( Geese ) leave and then return in the spring. The difference in your situation is you have to walk down to the river to see and hear them. This is not our case, they ( Geese) bed down for the evenings along the shore line in the sea grass and then in the mornings they come onto our back lawn and graze all day long.  The crap that these birds can S _  _ T is incredible.  Then we have to quarantine our dog from the lower portion of the lawn then we go into clean up mode, ah well rake bird poop or leaves one or the other, LOL ,  no difference I like being outdoors anyway.

We have friends with a 6 acre "lake" about 100 feet from their house. The geese take up residency there most of the summer. I know what you mean by the poop. It's everywhere. They can be very aggressive as well. I'm glad we have some woods between us and the water. Earlier this week I was down there relaxing and I could hear "swoosh swoosh swoosh". I turned around just in time to see a bald eagle fly over me- about 75 feet above. Incredible birds!

We saw about 200 Geese in a snow-covered corn field on the way home last week.

The ducks are all paired off down around the fishing wharf in our area. We probably have about 100+ ducks. Fun to watch them bobbing with their behinds in the air.

This is the first time we've also had a pair of seals sun bathing on sunny days.

I don't have to do anything to see Canada Geese except look out my back window. Most mornings about 70 geese land in the park out back. It is really neat to hear them flying overheard, there is a low "whoosh whoosh!" when about 30 fly overhead. Those suckers are large! They fly over in the morning, then in the evening they fly to the mouth of the Rouge River nearby.

They are messy with their waste and they are also are intimidating as they hold their ground.
