I am just totally stunned and dumbfounded. Who ever owns this dealership should be up on serious charges and put behind bars.

I saw this once before in Toronto, it was late at night and as I drove by I did a double take as several car loaders were taking the cars away. Next Morning it was if the dealership never was there....Peter Burdon Pontiac Buick on Broadview.

This sort of thing, is it only domestic car dealers at this point. Is this a thing that is happening in other parts of Canada and the world. You really have to worry about buying a car from a dealer, not knowing if they will be in business the next day. Very sad state of affairs no doubt. In this case here, there is no doubt that the owner should be behind bars. Just milking innocent folks for their money before they shut the doors. To me that deserves prison time and then some.

Yeah, except in this case it's the business owners who were at fault.  The employees (including salesmen) are now without a job.

Sounds like the innocent customers are the ones who will lose out the most, unfortunately.  IMHO GM, though probably not culpable in this case, should spread a little good will and make sure the customers who have put deposits on vehicles have their money refunded.

You're right Mark, that would be a real decent public relations win if GM was to step forward on this. I can't see how they wouldn't do it... But unfortunately, like most big business, they are pretty heavy on that  #1 on the list profession...lawyers.

Yeah, not to mention the technicians with all their tools locked up inside the building...  Sounds like a big mess all around.

Can you imagine being an innocent mechanic and having his $15,000 of tools locked up from him. You are out of work, need to find work but all your tools are locked away for who knows how long a period of time. It is chilling just to think about all those poor guys that will be effected that way. Put the owners behind bars and do what ever it takes to help all the workers that are innocent victims here.

Dean Myers had a Pontiac Buick Cadillac Dealership on Brunswick St in Halifax NS.

They also closed their doos without warning as well in the 80's, I was working there part time.

it was not a pleasant experience, some of the mechanics got the worst of it, they had to prove

with receipts that the tools etc were theirs. Most were senior tradesmen with tools and boxes

begin decades old so had no recourse. They still owe me my wage, nothing left when receiver

raped it over. Was same some customers had deposits on the new body style firebird coming out!

Unsure if GM did anything or not, my heart goes to the employees. But laws are different now..

Most interesting.  I assume that must have been the Citadel Pontiac dealership?

I had not heard that locally.  I recall the dealership being closed down, lot sold, and a hotel being built on the property but not the back story.

Geez, you would think that, given this track record, GM would have refused to grant them another dealership.  Scandalous.

Some insider info tells me a son-in-law has been running the place for the last 25+ years due to heir complications .

(Not sure about accuracy here but my source is usually spec on.)

As for GM stepping up (and I am not defending GM) I suspect that is unlikely.

GM is just another supplier in the long list to Dean Myers and as such is probably owed a bunch

of money. Dean Myers is just another private business succumbed to the many pitfalls inherent here.

The lawyers will be the only ones getting rich here.....cry

I understand the franchise aspect of dealerships, but I suspect most customers don't see it that way.   As long as the GM brand is on the dealership, the customer is seeing them as being one and the same.

I'm sure you're right that they won't step up, but unfortunately that means some individuals will be screwed over and some will probably never buy a GM product again.  Either way I don't have a horse in that race, I just feel bad for the customers who are being stolen from...

Correct on Son in Law/family, Dean tried to bring Him to Halifax to run the Pontiac store, He did not like it there so Dean sent Him back to Toronto!

Dean had the store in Toronto before buying this one in Halifax.. Scotia Bank closed the Pontiac store..

Dean Myers is from outside the Halifax area, so native Nova Scotian.

Dean himself was an awesome guy, treated everyone in the dealership the same. But as he was an older gentleman at the time, was not paying a lot

of attention to the stores. Wanted to retire and pursue boats.

So sad, he had built a small empire only to see it pissed away by second generation..Just my humble opinion and insider info.

I feel for all those affected by this. It is always sad to see a business fail. People all get burned to some degree. Everyone get in line.

I remember back in 2012 when a well-established local Mopar dealership that had been open since the 40's suddenly closed. As soon as I heard I grabbed my camera and set off for Jim Davidson Chrysler. They already had pulled down the signs. The dealership still looked like the 1960's - 90's style. They always had a fleet of Vipers on the lot. Mother Mopar (or whoever calls the shots now) said the dealership needed to retrofit to the new style and at great cost. Not interested. We insist! O.K, bye!

Stuff was disappearing fast. I'll bet they had filing cabinets of old sales receipts going way back. Shame.

On my street one neighbor was a mechanic for them in the heyday, another bought a nice '70 'Cuda 340 4-spd new from them and still had it in mint shape into the mid-90's. I also saw a 1961 Chrysler 300-G with the Davidson emblem on it. I'll bet they sold a notorious car or two that were known in unsanctioned circles, if you catch my drift. Dean Meyers Chev-Olds, same thing. They had been around for years. The local Chevy dealer in West Hill, Bob Johnston, opened in '72 & closed suddenly in 2008. The building is still vacant. I bought a lot of parts in dusty boxes through them. I also dealt with Herron in Mississauga, also closed & long-gone.

Similar story different result.
Had a friend in Northern Ontario who ordered a new TBird from a Toronto dealer when they came out with the latest recreation. On his way to Cuba he stopped in at the dealer and saw the car he had ordered then proceeded to Cuba. On the way back he stopped in Toronto to pick up the car. Dealers lot was empty and windows papered. Could tell there was someone inside so banged on the door and was let in. His car was there and he had no problem driving out in it. When he finally got around to checking in the trunk it was full of every available part ( floor mats, etc ) that the dealer had had in stock for the car. All gratis.

I ordered one soon as they came out. The first lot sent to Canada went back to the states with a $20,000 premium added to price. They stopped shipping them to Canada. They came up with you had to lease the car first before you could buy it. Told them they could shove that idea. Cars had a defective part causing over heating so they were shipped back to the factory. When I finally got mine I had to sign an agreement I would not sell for a year. $70,000 out the door back in 02 . Cars are worth nothing now. Take it to my grave with me. Ordered a new Shelby in 06 with all kinds of problems getting that one too. No more Fords for mefurious

Ya, people were scooping those retro Birds up hoping that they would hold their value ... uh no.

I saw one on a Summerside used F**d lot a year ago, they were still trying to recoup some of their original money for it, and they still are.

I like to know what the Prowler, SSR, etc. collectible market gains are? None.

I wonder what the update on this sad state of affairs is. Hopefully it is the owners serving some prison time. no
