Hopefully it is the owners serving some prison time. no

Not likely with the lax bankruptcy laws. They could be opening a Tesla dealership next week under the Myers name!wink

Ya, people were scooping those retro Birds up hoping that they would hold their value ... uh no.

I saw one on a Summerside used F**d lot a year ago, they were still trying to recoup some of their original money for it, and they still are.

I like to know what the Prowler, SSR, etc. collectible market gains are? None.

Has anybody made money by buying a new car, storing it for a number of years, and cashing out on it?

I don't recall hearing any stories where they have, and if so, it would be very rare.

People bought those SS454 pickups hoping they would appreciate, but they are worth little more than a regular pickup.  Buick Grand Nationals?  Maybe worth a little more now, but not new car prices if you calculate for inflation.  Challenger SRT8s... same deal.  You see them going for half of what they cost new (not to mention the extra fees dealers charged for them at the time).

The only thing that makes sense to me is to buy what you want, and drive the wheels off of it.  That's what they were made for, so you might as well enjoy them.  Cars are never an investment, really.

The only one that comes to mind is the Ford GT (GT40 replicas)....expensive new and outa sight today.

But this is a rare exception.

Had this happen a Chrysler dealer I worked for in Scarborough, came into work one morning, paddle locks on doors and security guards protecting the new & used cars. Was weeks before mechanics were able to get tool boxes out, some were hired to finish up repair work on customers vehicle that had been trapped in shop. I got about a weeks work getting parts for them & clearing out the parts dept. & returning inventory all with a guard looking over my shoulder!! Bankruptcy hits with no advance notice just the Bailiff showing up with papers and paddle locks!!!!

Not Davidson's  It was Jim Priest Chrysler at Birchmount & Lawrence. I started out with MOPAR at Ontario Chrysler, on Bay Street in Parts Dept. then moved to "Pat Kemp's Eastway Chrysler on Eglington Ave E. After Priest's went under, started with Toyota as Parts Manager at small Toyota dealer in the Beaches on Queen [ Universal Toyota] Then Lakeshore Toyota in west end, then Jack Frame Toyota, back in east end, then onto Whitby Toyota ,till it was sold & buyer brought his own staff from another dealership he owned!!After that I got my AZ lic. & went "trucking for 20 some odd yrs.

I hope there weren't any service customers with their vehicles tore apart. Imagine having your transmission overhauled and the trans is in pieces on the bench..

When I was an apprentice in the 70s a customer came in with a 1976 Impala on a wrecker. He had the car at the dealership in Sharbot Lake if I recall correctly and they had gone into receivership. The owner had an oil consumption problem with the 454 in the car and the engine was out of the car and apart. Because he was the registered owner he got the car back and whatever was in the trunk but nothing else. So we supplied a reman short block and installed it with the rest of the parts that were in the trunk. He was not happy with the dealer or the company in charge of the receivership but at least he got most of his car back.

Case in point about the Ford GT...........these appreciated beyond expectations I'm sure......smile

This 2006 Ford GT is one of just over 4,000 examples produced over a two-year run to celebrate Fords centenary. The car was purchased new in New York by the sellers late father and has been registered in Washington since July 2006.
