D2296A Delco brake light switch wanted 1996-1999 Olds Pontiac Buick

I know this is a long shot but hey, I've got 2 weeks at home and need to find things to do!

I'm looking for someone who has a D2296A switch or the equivalent. If someone has one,  I want to ask if you can try something. The switch has 4 terminals on it. I suspect that when the switch is sitting on the shelf, like in the picture, two of the terminals likely have continuity, the other two are a broken circuit. When the plunger is compressed, I suspect the continuity terminals become a broken circuit and the broken circuit terminals become a completed circuit. Does anyone have  switch like this? I can't get to work to find what vehicles it fits. Best I can find online is it's likely in about 1996-2000 full size Buick (LeSabre, Park Avenue), full size Olds (88,98 Aurora) or full size Pontiac (Bonneville). It must be exactly this switch, nothing similar unless you can find another 4 terminal brake light switch that includes a port for a cruise control vacuum hose on it like this one.

Standard Motor Products also makes it, DS2120, Borg Warner is an S41060.

A simple ohm meter can confirm or disprove my theory in about a minute if you have a switch and a meter.

Thanks!

I can check one from a 62 or 63 Carl, but no vacuum. ). I know, old tech, but so is this one?

Thought you needed a bump from a guy paying 70 cents for gas.

Thanks for the bump, I was going to do it in an hour or two! Someone's GOTTA have one!

I have a bunch of older style ones but I need this one exactly to test. I think it's gonna work but I don't want to spend 40 bucks on one to find out it's wrong....

73.9 cents here but I don't burn much in quarantine!

Looks like you stole the pic from one of our favourite suppliers.
Do it again and when the apt comes up click on the part number ( in blue ) and it'll give you the vehicles it fits.

This is off ebay. Did you mean Rock Auto? I could try that.

I'm SO handcuffed when I can't access my GM parts computer at work..... Retirement coming, I guess I need to start finding alternate resources anyway.

Thanks for this Ted.

Rock Auto says an alternate number is 1S8465. Here's what it fits-

It's amazing what info is available if you're sneaky enough to try things.
Yes I've actually looked things up on line and written down the part number. Then when the local jobber says his book or computer doesn't go back that far or any of a multitude of other excuses I just ask him to plug in the part number I wrote down and presto he can get it.
Some of today's jobbers are not very creative.
This can be especially true with windshields etc.

My favourite part of my job is the detective work it involves. However, I have to start thinking past what I use there. I'm so used to having so much stuff at my fingertips there that I tend to forget what I have here at home. I'll adjust, it just will take me some time!

I can have the guys check at work tomorrow (sunday) to see if we have one on the shelf. If so, I can check it.

I use rockauto all the time for part numbers and brands , then you can also search on line for the part number or even use them at Canadian Tire. One of the local parts places I use also checks rockauto for part numbers. I also order a lot from rockauto btw.

Thanks for checking Clint. I'll keep looking.

I do know of a guy locally who has some wrecked cars. He might have one. He's out in the country so if I can find a time when he's not around maybe my quarantine will take me into the back 40 at his place.

Thanks to Pontiax finding me a wiring diagram for the D2296A, I now know I can use it for my project. Now I need to find one locally.

Please please, anyone in Winnipeg area have, or know of any of the vehicles listed that are being parted out?

Yep me too. Ordered a part at 1:30 pm last Friday afternoon and there was a knock on the door around 11 am this morning ( Monday ). Fed Ex truck pulling out of the driveway by the time I got to the door.

Bumping this up.

I can not believe I can't find one locally... Of course, I can't go out anywhere and look right now either but my search online has been fruitless.

Totally striking out on this. Does anyone know someone who has one of these vehicles and would sell the brake light switch that looks like the one above in the pictures?

Have you searched on car-part.com for those models of vehicles? Search for something like a back seat or taillight as you probably cant search for that part. You can also sort what you find by distance from your postal code.

Interesting Carl that GM has not actually discontinued the switch yet, just no inventory in any warehouse.

Yes, even tried that! Closest one I can find is 150 miles away in Brandon. It looks like the yard there will have lots of them.

There is one local guy here with some junk cars I still want to try. We get out of jail on Thursday so I plan to call him and see if I can poke around in his yard because that's exactly the kind of car he may have.

I've found some on ebay but that will be a good 2 weeks, not one on Ebay or Amazon Canada.

I know, it's weird. I checked warehouses and did the Canadian dealer search as well as US. One in California.

Thanks Cliff, I will do that.

I did think of one more local place that I can try after we get out of jail on Thursday.

Carl my dealership was open today for a very limited operation, I wasn't in but got my boss to check for the switch and our AC Delco supplier, but no luck.
