There is no tune to change.  You do what you have to do to protect yourself, your family and your property.  But the difference is in having respect for the world around you, including other animals (people seem to forget we are animals too, not superior creatures graced by god or whatever).

I dont want to say anymore, we all have a right to our opinions, but I cant help but be irked when folks seem to take some kind of joy or have some kind of pride in how proficient they are at killing things.  No offence intended, just stating my opinion, as are the others in this thread.

 I meant no offense, either.

At the time, we had a city-wide infestation. We still have too many and they're still making trouble for homeowners.

I take no pleasure in killing and I never will. I don't hunt and I don't like fishing for the same reason. We did what was necessary and I won't apologize for it.

Text and context are wide open to interpretation and I do apologize if I gave you the wrong impression. We killed some varmints and we didn't enjoy it, except to terminate their destructive activities and the commune they were building in our home.

No apologies requested or expected, it's just a discussion of opinions.  Do what you have to do and so will I.  Life goes on.  Much bigger fish to fry now anyhow.

Great attitudes guys. We are all wired a little differently and there is nothing wrong with that. Some like meat while others like vegetables, all is good.

Yes, as long as everyone's opinion is considered equal the ship sails fine!

It's easy to believe that considering the time we are in right now, cabin fever, restlessness and attitudes could become an issue though. We all need to do our part to stay sane through this mess!

Very few Reds in this part of the GTA. Just Grey's and Blacks, which are less destructive. Probably because they are too well fed, big and fat to get in anywhere tight.

It's Raccoons that are the problem here. 3 times they have pulled my roof open trying to get in. A leak in my ceiling during a big rain is the indication. Brutal.

Buy a large 'have a heart' trap on Amazon (free shipping). Use a small pc of bacon and voila.

I have trapped at least a dozen or so and never injured or hurt one, my wife calls me father nature.

Put them in the back of our truck and they get a free ride to a woods about 5 miles away. Even trapped a couple skunks and they were

no problem. Sneak up behind, cover the trap and they transport fine.

Funny story, I had one skunk that refused to come out of the trap at the wood lot. Hmmm....lucky I had a hockey stick in the truck

and kept rattling the trap and finally he (she) waddled out and slowly went down the path. The raccoons fire out of that trap at

about 100 kph, no need for a hockey stick.

If you decide to do this be ready they are heavy and stink but other than that no problem. A friend said " you know they will come back

don't you"......."I told him this isn't a Disney movie, too many distractions on the way back", none have returned.

happy ending for everyone.

Funny story about transporting squirrels and releasing them miles away from your home.

My father in law lives in Kenora,Ontario-has numerous issues with red squirrels. So he sets a live trap all summer and fall for the squirrels to trap them live and them to be released miles away without harm etc..He has been doing it for years. He stated a couple of summers ago that he thinks the squirrels return after he releases them-I stated" no way" if he released them over 5 miles away like he stated. He stated-that one is absolutely the same squirrel-no questions asked. We went back and forth about this over a couple of beers-so we made a bet. I told him next time you catch a squirrel-paint the tip of its tail with blue spray paint-now their hair sheds each year so it will eventually fall out and be replaced with new tail hair-so no harm done. Well a few days later he caught the squirrel which he thought was the one he released some five miles away-painted the tip of its tail with blue spray paint as we had discussed. Then drove the squirrel some five miles away and released it-I was with him for the ride and the release-it was actually over five miles away. We chuckled as we drove away-it was in July.

Well guess what-I lost the bet! It was in September and the squirrel returned to his yard in Kenora-blue tipped tail and all-pretty hard to believe but true. The little bugger showed up and I had to see it with my own eyes-and did! I was amazed! His wife( my mother in law) was angry at my father in law and myself for not driving it farther away! LOL

I hope you aren't driving them east because if you go too far then I'll have to deal with them at our cabin! If I catch a blue-tip there you may find one on your boat!!!

lmao-that would be funny if they ended up at your cabin-but not on our boat! Besides Todd and Kevin would never allow that! And Pika our newest would catch those things in a heartbeat! Our doggies really don't like squirrels!

I didn't realize there's a law about catch and release but that makes sense, it's just moving the headache to someone else I guess.

No, apparently it's related to separating the animal from it's family. i'm not kidding.

You are right, in Ontario at least....but sometimes the rules get a little stretched.

No Skunks. No Raccoons. These two don't live here. Some foxes but they are not pests. Coyotes only in very recent years but generally not in residential areas. And occasionally a grey squirrel - I've seen them in the woods in the centre of the Island - but only once in my heavily treed yard in 22 years.

Been checking for evidence under the hood to see if he had returned but none. I desided  to check under the hood of the Canyon and sure enough he has destroyed all the insulation under the hood. One thing to chew up a 500,000 km truck but an 18,000 mile 5.3 Canyon furious
