American Grafitti

There's lots of future stars in American Graffiti.:
Ron Howard - transitioning from child to adult roles.
Richard Dreyfus
Harrison Ford
McKenzie Phillips
Cindy Williams - she plays younger than Ron Howard in the movie, but as Shirley in Laverne & Shirley she was older.
Bo Hopkins
Charles Martin Smith - many movies, including The Untouchables.
Susan Richardson - later played Susan in Eight is Enough.
Debralee Scott - later played Rosalie "Hotsie" Totsie in Welcome Back Kotter.

And who can forget Suzanne Somers?    Back in the 80's I remember American Graffiti being on TV, the ad stated it was starring Ron Howard & Suzanne Somers.

One of my favorite car movies was Dazed and Confused. Fantastic soundtrack too!

I just finished watching it. The bottom of the credits, Suzanne Somers!

I remember an interview with Suzanne Somers talking about the t-bird. Because of the tight budget George Lucas asked for owners of collector cars if they would like their cars to be in a movie. The owner of the t-bird was concerned about the driving ability of Suzanne and she had to convince him that she was a good and responsible driver before she was allowed to drive the car.

That T-Bird is worth a lot more today because he said yes!

Mad Mad Mad Mad World gets my vote. Made in 62, best comedians of the day and great cars of the early 60's....smile

Have it on VHS (remember that) and of course DVD. Watch it about once a year, never gets old - imho....biggrin

 Yes.

I just don't like Matthew McConaughey... isn't there a "creepy factor" in his Lincoln commercials?

Guys, find a copy of Mad Max if you haven't seen it. The later movies are not as good. Some great classis Australian cars in it. The HQ Holden coupe that is in the early scenes is the coupe form of the car we believe was a cancelled Canadian GM vehicle of some kind, maybe 1970 Beaumont or similar. We think the car was cancelled as GM Canada ceased making specials for Canada around that time. Design was finished here but the project had to be very much advanced in the USA before it was sent here to be completed as the HQ Holden. The panel van belonging to Max is a modified HJ Holden, which was the first facelift of the HQ Holden. Really just the nose on it has been changed, it has a HJ Statesman front on it plus the murals, wheels etc. There are a few ugly Fords in the movie too, XA and XB Police cars plus the XB coupe with the blower. Some older Holdens and Fords too.

The other good Aussie car movie is Running on Empty, released in the USA as Fast Lane Fever. Big bad blown '57 Chevy in it. But a host of other Aussie and North American cars in it, you'll recognise a Road Runner during the movie and a few others.

I've watched Mad Max but I've watched Road Warrior many times and still prefer it for some reason.

Funny thing is, I typically don't like blood and guts movies, pretty much avoid them but there's just something about Road Warrior...

They took themselves too seriously in the later movies. The 3rd one with Tina Turner in it was terrible. The original will always be the nest! Mainly for Aussie car nuts.

I guess Terry lied, didn't he say it had 6 Strombergs?

Paul, thanks for sharing that video of the FAYRO'S custom Merc. It was fun to watch and that was funny at the end, with Candy Clark mistaking the Merc for a Chevy. "See the U.S.A. in your Chevrolet", Mercury that is.

Wondering,... the plate on Milner's hot rod starts with THX. Being a Lucasfilm, is that a coincidence or intentional?

Thx138 is a nod to his first film he directed. It was called THX1138. Back in 1971.

Definitely! The term "stalker" comes to mind.
