Name that Classic Car.....Part 3 The GTO

Well Poncho Guys, here is one that has already been guessed I think...

I'll let y'all drool over the pictures here, then I will post all the goods on this car.

Cardinal Red & White, one of only 241 built with AC, PS, & PB in a Convertible.

I almost creamed my GWG's when I saw this rocket.   Sigh again....the ask is $95,000 U.S. and it is almost sold.    Sure wish this was in my garage.....pretty much my Dream Car.

Check the build sheet, last picture, and try to hold back your tears...$227.04 charge for the optional L75 455 HO engine.   You could hardly but even buy a water pump for that engine today with $227.04.   Sigh....

Wait, in 1971 the L75 was the 325 gross, 260 net horsepower 455 and was automatic only. The 455 H.O. was RPO LS5 with 335 gross, 310 net horsepower and was available with manual or automatic transmissions.

There have been a few cases of L75s offered with manual transmissions, including the 1973 Trans Am (the SD 455 was taking too long to get to market), the 76 Trans Am (the TH400 wouldn't fit the tunnel with the catalytic converter nearby), plus the odd 70/71 455 3-speed Bonneville & the odd special-order 1970 Grand Prix.

<EDIT>  Duh, I looked at the picture and saw that it was a 1970.  Nevermind hmm

Actually there was a mysterious 455 H.O. in 1970 that wasn't really an H.O., it was merely the L75 torque motor with the 1-year-only high compression. Not supposed to offered with a manual, yet there was a documented Grand Prix from the factory with it.

I have been humbled by The Humbler.

First I love the car and would drive the wheels off it. Unfortunately, second it is not a correct restoration hence why i think its a driver. I'm not shitting on the car or builder but just an observation from someone that researched and rebuilt a 70 GTO, close to a resto but not quiet. I will completely rebuild one and observe factory finishes but I will not call my cars a restoration. I'm not into the paint dab, chalk mark, hang tags from all sorts of parts and not be able to drive it kind of guy.

My observation:
1970 GTO Convertible, Cardinal red with white top and would look spectacular next to our National Flag. Underside of body should be about a 50 or 60% gloss black. Standard custom weave upholstery (reproduction stamped not the real stuff). By call out 455 HO with incorrect 455 sticker on air cleaner and the wrong mid 70's blue or maybe early 60's. I don't recall the fan sticker for 70 either. The car clearly has AC which appears correct. The disc brake master and upper proportioning valve are correct for 70. Black PMD center caps were early build cars but I don't recall the time frame of the switch over to red PMD caps, February if I recall correctly. With the 455 it should have a 12bolt. The rear wing looks so good on the 70 and it is very refreshing to see that it's not another Judge knock off. There are some more items that for $95G car I expect differently but I'm on beer budget not 50year old Scotch.....so I'm out of the running.

Fell in love with that 70' cardinal red GTO hardtop when I first saw that ad, and although a lot of time has passed since I first saw it, I'm still in love. This is my all time favourite.
