My sweet 1970 Chevrolet Nova coupes last day on earth. (1980)

In late 1979 i bought a really nice 1970 Chev Nova coupe as an every day driver. Looking back now it was a real crime that i drove this car in the winter but it was my every day car. The car just had a recent body and paint with new vinyl top when i bought it. The car had a 307 V-8 with Power Glide, power steering, power brakes, radio, full wheel covers and white walls. I never had any issues with this sweet Chevy until i wrote it off in December 1980. My then fiance and i had just split up and i had my mind on my loss of this lady instead of my driving. I ran through a stop sign and plowed into a 1976 Chevelle station wagon. I was lucky i never hurt anyone in that other car. This taught me a lesson that always stayed with me till now. Never let a dead relationship mess you up............. period. The car was such a mess that my kid brother Mike who was about twelve at the time, ran to our mother crying thinking that i had died in the car crash. I never got a scratch but that sweet Chevy had little to salvage. The frame was even bent up forcing the motor into the firewall. Another car i miss and wish was still roaming the earth instead of being in old car heaven. Cheers.

It took the hit to protect you, how noble! You must have had your belt on, and a good thing too! Back before seatbelt use became mandatory I can remember during emergency braking dad's arm instinctively would restrain us on the bench seat. We know today that such action is ridiculous and is almost quaint.

Speaking of '76 Chevelle wagons in the snow getting wrecked, I saw a brand new '76  Chevelle get involve with 3 or 4 cars in a snow store in January '76 while driving along the Gardiner en route to the boat show. No snow tires, the car was obviously on it's way home from the dealer. The driver thought it wise to hit the throttle while passing on snow-covered lanes and he went sideways across 4 lanes of traffic, all of whom were wondering if they could stop. Once the wagon straightened out, a '69 Vista Cruiser came up behind it fast, tagged it and it went spinning all over the place until it landed in the shoulder.

Fortunately, I've never wrecked a car, nor have I been involved in a serious accident. Sorry about your Nova.

Just thinking of this sad 1970 Nova loss, reminded me of how close i came to buying another 1970 Nova that was a southern car and completely perfect and mint in every way. The car was all original in red with a black vinyl top, stock 350 V-8, 350 Turbo hydromatic, P.S., P.B. and factory rally wheels. The man was from Toronto and i had just bought two boxes full of old Hot Rod magazines from him. He showed me his black and white 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air two door sedan stock beauty and his 1970 Nova. He said the Nova might be for sale and i wasted no time in telling him that i wanted the car. He hummed and hawed for the longest time before he said that he could not get himself to selling the car. Damn.
