Show us your original factory markings on your vintage car.

Show us any original factory markings on your vintage car. You know those odd numbers or letters that seem to make no sense initially when you look at them and then hopefully down the road you find out what they mean. Priceless markings found on your car made by some factory worker from a bygone era that was trying to tell some one....... something. I found no such markings on my 57 Pontiac but i did find one such marking on my 74 Chev wagon. When i restored my 74 Chev wagons engine bay back in 1994, i went out of my way to make sure that i never painted over this marking. To this day i still do not know what it means and i was hoping someone could help me out. Maybe our resident GM gura Cam knows. Show us your factory markings. Cheers.

I had a 66 Mustang Coupe that came from Arizona (sold new in Oakland, CA). I literally cleaned the frame with Windex and found these markings;

I don't think I'd ever try to recreate body markings. Even on a top shelf, body off megabuck car they tend to look ridiculous, even laughable.

Impossible to recreate, they always seem to look cheesy, too bold, too thick, wrong colour, and never seem to look as the disgruntled Union hungover line guy would have done them.

Just my opinion...

The only way to get them to look right is to use a CHINA MARKER.  i have had excellent results. 

Dont buy the crayons or any other marking sticks that all the restoration catalogs and companies sell.

Just go to Staples and buy a box of CHINA MARKERS,  tehy come in colors

Hello George. I missed the opportunity on my 65 to do the stencils.

Really, I thought about it a lot, still do, but I've always thought the redone looked silly reproduced, (fake). You can't go back when you paint that wall.
