I'm hoping that we will be able to at least take a Sunday drive in the Classic's, as there won't be any Car Shows or Cruise Inns in the near future , but did hear that Police were stopping cars in Cottage country that were not registered in that area & asking "why" they were there? Stirling, Lindsay, swap meets are OFF and likely Barrie will bit the bullet too. List gets longer in Old Autos as to "cancelled" events.

Too sad and depressing for words but this will never dampen my zest to drive my oldies on nice days. I love it even more now. smile

Nobody is trying to take away enjoyment of your classic.  It's just short term measures to attempt to get people to stay closer to home and stop spreading the virus. A small temporary sacrifice, IMHO.

The one big thing that i am missing about this whole melt down is this. How is it that me being in my car alone away from anyone a risk or any kind of problem. I am in my car on the road, no where near anyone. This whole Corona melt down is melting down many peoples brains but that is ok because it will never stop me from enjoying being on the road with any of my babies. If folks do not like it or get............ well that is their freaking problem not mine. biggrin

They just declared a state of emergency here in PEI this morning. I'm trying to determine if this means all "non essential" travel inside the province is banned (not that I have anything worth taking out for a non essential drive!)

No, just a safeguard to keep "germie" People From Away (PFAs) from entering and infecting PEI. So, all you PFAs, stay away from PEI! Keep your germs to yourselves!biggrin

During the period of the state of emergency, individuals traveling to Prince Edward Island will be required to disclose the purpose of their travel to determine if it is deemed essential or not as per the direction of the Chief Public Health Office to the Emergency Measures Organization by email publicsafety@gov.pe.ca (link sends e-mail) or by phone 902-894-0385. This process will complement current border controls and screenings in place in both New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

The state of emergency will be in effect from April 17, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. to April 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

For many of the big automakers it's going to be a huge undertaking to get back up to production. For example plants in Mexico, US and Canada are going to have to start at the same time as one plant in Canada will need parts from Mexico and the US etc. All it takes is for one small plant that makes a critical part to not be up and running to shut down the whole operation. I would not want to be in charge of logistics!

The problem they have with people out for a leisurely drive is that if that person were to get in an accident then they put unneeded risk on anyone who has to come to that persons aid, either from civilians stopping to help, police,

Said much better than I could have.

Plus, the more cars on the road for pleasure drives, the statistically higher risk of accidents happening (and having to stop for fuel, washrooms, food, etc).  The people making the decisions are dealing with mass amounts of people all wanting to do their own thing.  So you have to manage the risks statistically and make blanket rules for everybody to follow.

While we are all doing without things we enjoy, not just refraining from driving our cars around, we have to keep in mind that we are all part of a larger solution, and when people are looking for loopholes is when it all starts to fall apart.  The sacrifice is really only a small part of our lives in actuality.  It seems like a big deal now, but in a year or two we'll all have moved on to something else.  In the meantime we have to be unselfish and protect society in general and not overburden our health car system and workers (and first responders, obviously) for the benefit of... everybody.

I would like nothing more than to go on a nice long drive now that the weather is getting better.  But, I'm staying home in the hope that more people will get to enjoy good times in the future.  Short term pain for long term gain.

You're right Todd.  It's a very complex, nuanced system where many companies and people are interconnected.  One major piece of the link missing, the whole thing falls apart.  Not to mention that the majority of dealers are shut down now, and people are not wanting to put out large amounts of money for cars that many don't really need now.

They could build cars, but then they are sitting around deteriorating in holding lots, along with the other unsold inventory, until this all gets sorted out.

Sigh.

Longstroke and Yams, I would request that neither of you ever post anything like the material I deleted. If you do I will be asking for you to be banned. This is not the place for it.

It's not always peaches and cream being a moderator. It seems like somebody's going to dislike you no matter what. I did what I could and this situation will be dealt with as the site admin sees fit. It's our job to keep this place free of personal attacks and profanity. Opinions, points of view, thoughts etc are welcome. What happened here didn't fall into those categories.

Thank you for all the contributions you made here that did fall within the guidelines.

There has been the occasional time on this forum when I have pounded out something kind of nasty and then I manage to delete it before I send it. I have never regretted that. On the other hand I have always regretted being nasty.

So now, basically before I press the Post button I always ask myself, "Is this the kind of thing my mother, or Carl, would want to read?

I truly appreciate the work Carl and the other the moderators do on here! I can't monitor the site 24hrs a day and Carl caught some nasty posts that hopefully most of you guys didn't have to see. I know we are all under a ton of stress right now but please think before posting a bunch of hate filled profanity towards each other.

I didn't see all the posts that were deleted, but my apologies if I had a part in whatever transpired.  Thanks Carl, Todd and any mystery mods that I don't know about.  We all appreciate the time and effort that you put into keeping this board a pleasant place to escape life from time to time.   While many of us like to trade jabs from time to time, I'd like to think that most of it is in fun... and it mostly is, but sometimes the serious aspects of life can't help but creep into a forum like this, because, well, we are all people and all experiencing life as it unfolds in front of us.

That said, these are strange, unusual, tough times with lots of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty thrown in to raise the stress levels of all of us.  The auto industry woes hit home for me as it is having a serious effect on my career and my paycheque, as well as many colleagues that I work with and employees that I'm responsible for.  At the same time many of my close family members are currently out of work and pretty much everybody else is suffering in some way or another.  My mother in law is in a nursing home that thankfully hasn't been affected by COVID yet, but I was just speaking with a colleague in Toronto today who just lost her mother due to COVID in a long term care home this week.  My heart broke when she told me what happened and how she wasn't even able to see her mother in her last moments.  You don't have to look very far to see how the current situation is affecting people all around us in very serious ways.

So, I apologize if I feel that whining about driving your classic car seems a little trivial, especially when nobody's even actually preventing you from doing it.  Be happy that you have the luxury of owning one, and obviously aren't being directly affected by the serious situation that's affecting all the rest of us.  A little dose of humble doesn't cause any harm, so let's all just take a deep breath and be thankful for our blessings.  And give Carl, Todd and everybody else a break, God knows we all need a little bit of peace.
