April 2020 Feature Car 1952 Fleetleader

It's always a treat to have an earlier Poncho featured as there simply aren't many of them left. For April we are happy to feature Mike Cannon's 1952 Pontiac Fleetleader Special. She was in pretty tired shape when Mike purchased the car from his brother-in-law back in 2000 for $300!

With lots of support from his wife, Mike did most of the restoration work on the Pontiac.

This Fleetleader Special was built in Oshawa on June 6, 1952 which ironically is the same day Mike's father was born!

The car carries most of it's original bits with exception of the trunk and interior. The interior and paint was completed in 2010 and still looks great today!

The Pontiac still has it's original 102hp 239 C.I six mated to a three speed manual transmission. The engine has not been touched since Mike has owned the car.

Mike states the car is pretty much finished however there is still one piece he is looking for: A hood emblem. If you know of one available please let him know!

Classic is right! And how cool is that to have a car built the day your dad is born.....wow!

Congrats Mike, it's a beauty.

I love the direction that C.P. is going in with two 1950's Pontiac's in a row. Last a sweet 55 and now a sweet 52. I have always loved and appreciated this era of automobiles and the GM cars from this era are among the very best. My dad's very first car was the 52 Chevy version of this car and the love for this vintage iron has never left me. Mike, she is a real beauty and thank you for gracing C.P. for the next month with this fine automobile of yours. Cheers.

Such a classic! There is nothing like the ride of an early 50's car! Different than the late 40's cars and also the late 50's cars to me. Classy and clean....

Congrats! Lovely car. Must be a joy to cruise in.

A family member on my Wife's side has a beautiful 50 Plymouth Deluxe. I used to have zero interest in these cars...until I rode in that car!

Great old poncho and nice work. I like to see more of the earlier stuff but, as they say, tougher to find.

Coincidentally, I also have a 1989 Dakota convertible that was my first new vehicle. (Red 4x4, manual tranny) It runs but needs a bit of work. Just waiting for the inspiration. Maybe we should talk....

You did a fine job on this car and it is a classic early 50s car. I like those old flatheads, biggest problem with them is you cant hear them run, must be hard on starters, trying to start them when they are already running. For anyone who hasnt heard one run, go out of your way to hear one.

Congratulations on being the April feature car.

Beautiful car, funny how nowadays Im more drawn to these examples of basic period family transportation than flashy convertibles and muscle cars. I still love those popular cars but the oddballs are just more interesting by their rarity.

I also love the model name... "Fleetleader", hearkens back to a time before Canada became a "woke" embarrassment to its previously proud history.
