In November, Ken Morris, who has been with GM for 31 years,

was named vice-president for electric and autonomous vehicles.

Its hard to imagine how he could be more gung-ho on EVs.

In interviews over the past few months, he repeatedly states that GM (and the world)

will soon hit an inflection point for electric propulsion.

He told Automobile magazine last week that GM will be all-electric sooner than people would think.

I think this is very possible. I could see technology advances, combined with the urgency over climate change, pushing the timeline faster than we might expect. If oil stays very low in price, that might be a disincentive for electric cars in the near future but I expect that in time EVs will displace fossil fuelled vehicles as the main mode for people transport.

I love all of my gasoline powered vehicles and they may still be relevant for the balance of my lifetime but I expect that my children will find themselves migrating to EVs when they are a lot younger than I am now.  But of course I could be wrong. We'll just have to wait and see.
