Samsung set to smash EV battery range wide open

https://www.whichcar.com.au/car-news/samsung-solid-state-battery-breakthrough

"With a significant leap forward in material science, the South Korean tech giant's

innovation shrinks the overall size of the battery by half,

compared with the most energy-dense batteries currently (hah!) in use by EV manufacturers.

That means a vehicle's range can be effectively doubled without requiring any extra space to store the battery.

Take the Tesla Model S Long Range, for example; swap its standard battery for a Samsung unit,

and its range would theoretically be boosted from about 700km to a whopping 1400km".

Game changer, theoretically.

I wonder how much the conversion would cost? I guess money is no object when it comes to a $180,000.00 U.S. car.

Or how many charge cycles they will survive?

taking a minute to actually read the article, they claim significant improvement in life, claiming 1000 charges.

Is that a lot?  How many times do you think you refuel a fossil fuel car/truck in its life?  Say 200,000 mile life, 25 mpg and a 15 gallon tank would be 530 tankfuls - so say 700 times (you dont drive until the tank is completely empty).  So if the range per charge is similar to gasoline, 1000 charges should be a lifetime.

Solid state electrolyte.  hmm
