At Your Acadian-Pontiac-Buick Dealer Now! (1962 Acadian Ad)

Our son's friend lives in BC. I guess he was doing some house renovations on an older home. This was in one of the walls he opened up! Greater Vancouver had no less than 5 Acadian dealers when Acadians were introduced in 1962.

I'm trying to do it differently but the forum is acting funny, locking up etc.

Very cool Carl. But it's still not a Pontiac.

I'm amazed at the condition of the paper.

Are any of those dealers still active?

 Google,

https://www.jptoyota-northshore.com/history.htm

The story began in 1961, when an enterprising young man from Luseland in rural Saskatchewan quit a successful business career in Vancouver and took the bold step of purchasing his own GM franchise that handled Pontiac and Buick nameplates.

It sure was a great little car for the money back then. We can not forget its brother the Chevy II also. Today a very well loved car and rightly so.

Roger Motors became Conroy Pontiac Buick, Bowell McClean is gone, Phillipson is gone, Trapp Motors is gone, Jim Pattison is still in Business.
Bowell McClean's sign is still up as a Vancouver landmark.
I remember going to Trapp motors with my parents in 63 looking at a 63 Acadian wagon. They were wagon shopping. The sales guy at Trapp's was putting on the pressure. As we left without a car, my mother said it really was a Trap! Dad ended up buying a Valiant wagon with the leaning tower of power!

I well remember going with my dad when I was 9 to order his first new car, a new 1966 Pontiac.

The salesman was pretty smooth and tried to talk him into a pile of options but he resisted pretty well.

Just got talked into deluxe seatbelts for 9 bucks and neat rear speaker with a switch on the dash. Otherwise he stuck to the plan pretty much,

a red 4 door sedan with power steering and brakes and automatic transmission, what my mother had firmly specified.

His own frill was the AM radio, which she could have lived without.

He never did pay much attention to me pointing excitedly to cool stuff in the big colour brochure.

Still it was a pretty well equipped car for the day and made us feel like we were moving up.

It was powerful moment in the kids life back then, the first  proud ride in the new car going home.

Sorry for the derail but this song has suddenly forced itself into my mind as I write this. Its kind of related to the subject and really happy and really sad at the same time. Maybe I'm in a weird mood or maybe I think most of you older guys would get the significance of this historical timing of this song that I will post here.  A brilliant depiction of lost innocence.

Powerful stuff.
