LOL, certainly some of us just weren't made to drive 6 cylinder vehicles! Maybe we're impatient? I don't know....

A friends cousin had a 65 Strato Chief with a six and three on the wheel. His house was on a bit of a hill and his wife backed out of the driveway, pulled it int first while rolling backwards let the clutch out and twisted the pinion off in the rear end. I have never seen that happen since. It probably had a defect. Ended up changing the rear, but it wasnt a problem finding one as this was forty years ago! Man I am getting old.

lol did that with a '69 Impala, snapped the 10 bolt pinion off at the yoke.

I think the love/hate for inline 6's just depends on your perspective and expectations.

I've driven a range of cars over the years (not only cars that I've owned) and have found I appreciate each of them for what they are.  This includes the most basic of economy cars, muscle cars, and cars in the 'supercar' category.  I've driven them all, to be honest.  I like driving fast, been there done that - risked my life and safety many times over the years for the thrill of driving faster than I should have, but there's more to life than that.  FWIW, I've smartened up over the years and don't take the chances that I did when I was a young and foolish guy.

So therefore, I think rather than putting down people who like straight sixes, take the time to think about why you are putting them down and try to appreciate them for what they are.  You are not any less of a man for doing so.  Another perspective to consider is that if it weren't for the more basic cars that most Canadians drove back then, the companies would not have been able to remain as profitable, and likely wouldn't have been able to offer the performance versions that many of you drool over.

All I ask is that you think before you put others down for liking something that you don't.  Having a broader perspective can make life more rewarding.

I don't think any V8 lovers here are attempting to put down 6 cylinder lovers, more just stating preference with a bit of a tongue in cheek delivery!

I LIKE IT !!!   That 250 six has no trouble hauling that car around, even up hill.

George, the 250 in my 65 wouldn't hardly climb the curb.

It is time to finally tune up that baby and while you are at it, for goodness sakes ......... change the oil.

I am a V8 lover as well, but I just don't think that everything that doesn't have a V8 is lacking somehow.  I know, to each his own.  You have a lovely car, and I can understand your enthusiasm for it.

After rereading the posts, I don't think anybody was putting down someone for owning a six, but still get the impression that folks in general think of anything with a six being a lesser car, which is their prerogative.  I do question sometimes whether folks that put the big engines in their 50 plus year old cars actually use them to their potential, or if it is even good sense to do so.   They certainly look good and sound good, though.
