Having driven on that stretch many times and witnessed the stupid lane-blockers and lack of lane discipline that hamper efficient and therefore safe traffic flow, he could have been frustrated to death & planted his foot. Just look around at any unreasonable lane blocker and you will see people start to get frustrated and eventually take chances to get around the blocker. Drive at a reasonable speed and you will rarely see that craziness. I challenge you to observe the phenomenon next time you are driving on the 400-series highways in Ontario.

That kind of speed is insane. Somebody looks, sees the coast is clear and pulls out, only to be obliterated by a missile they never saw coming. Stupid as hell. Take it to a track. Oh I forgot, they are all under forced closure.

200 in a C63 is easy for a brief moment on a clear stretch. But 300 is just insane.

My 98 beetle diesel would do 200, eventually, 300 is ninja bike territory.

I've gone 280 on a 89 ZX10. Once, and never again. It's dumb.

These Guys Just Drove an E63 AMG Across America in a Record 27 Hours 25 Minutes

Maybe the kid was influenced by popular culture.

Cruise Control in Effect

Done_Hurryin[4).jpg

Put this on in protest.

Company told me I had no more Medical or Dental benefits because I had reached the age of 70.

Dialed in the cruise and just relaxed. Retired at 75 due to restructuring.

My C63 AMG Mercedes has the ability to go 320 kms /hr. But I'm not stupid enough to do it.

Our roads certainly can't handle those speeds, and its questionable whether an average driver even has the skill to take such a car to its limits. I suppose anybody can get a powerful car up to high speed .... but what do you do if something unexpected happens?

That's when the average driver's skill is terribly exceeded. And the likely result is that some innocent person gets killed.

Two fatalities in my city tonight at 8.00 pm in a 50 km zone from somebody either being stupid, or by some means not equipped to be on the road. Very sad!

Drive these same roads everyday and see the same things, people getting frustrated at slow drivers in the left lane resulting in road rage. Lots of people driving pass cops at 130 not getting stopped cause there is a lot doing way more. Taking the car for 7 days is not enough. Dougie Ford wants it moved to a month

You are absolutely correct - at 320 km/h you are just a passenger at that point.   Anything in your way and you have no time or ability to do anything about it.  At that speed aerodynamics play more of a part of your vehicles stability than suspension and tires, and any quick movements would just upset the car's balance and then you're even more of a passenger.  Mercedes makes safe vehicles, but nothing will protect you in a production passenger car at 200 mph - depending on what you hit your car will either be crushed like a beer can or opened up like a sardine can, spilling its contents all over the road.

Even skilled drivers can't do too much at that speed - just watch what happens in NASCAR on the big tracks when something goes wrong in front of them.  And these are purpose built cars all going in the same direction at the same speed with professional race drivers behind the wheel.

Anyhow... with just getting a ticket, this kid got lucky.  His dad should get him a B body with an inline six in it to keep him legal... lol.

I'd love to see a NASCAR or pro driver navigate a PEI road at a high rate of speed this time of year (even our main highway, and even with the reduced "Covid traffic"). Potholes, farm machinery, and Sunday drivers on a Saturday.

A B-body six would navigate Island roads flawlessly!

I would think that the Mercedes dealer may be able to limit the top speed through the engine ecm. No need to go that fast.

When I was still working a couple of guys wanted to stay past 65. They were told no benefits after age 70 and no workmans compensation after age 65 if they got hurt on the job. A friend of mine drove transport for SLH and had to retire at 80 because the insurance company would no longer insure him as a driver.
