1966 Grande Parisienne 396 for sale

Hi guys I've been mulling this over for a long time and with spring being here maybe its time to offer this up.

I love this car but I have to admit that every time I think about making a trip into town (about 15 km there and back) I'll jump in the Beaumont instead of taking this car. For road trips it's great but for short hops it's kind of a barge. Also I just have too many vehicles and not enough space to store them well so this car needs someone who will value it more than I have been able to do.

It was featured on the site in February of 2018 with a fairly lengthy writeup so I don't need to say too much more about it other then it is a lavishly optioned car with the original engine, carb, aircleaner, etc.  If you want to read more about it, just go to the Feature Cars thread for that month.

I still have the original heavy duty Powerglide and if the new owner wants it he can take it as well. The engine date and car build date of October 26 makes it the earliest Mark IV big block I have run across installed in a Canadian car. I may be proven wrong but in all the years on this forum and looking at cars I have yet to see an earlier one.

It will also come with full wheel covers if you it want to look factory.

Flaws in this car largely stem from my hurry to drive if before it was really quite finished, so the 2013 paint job (original colour) needs to be polished out which I have never found the time to do and there is still some rust in the trunk floor that I was in too much a hurry to fix. (I have the patches.) I have also never hooked up the Air Conditioning (Ultra rare option in 1966 in Canada) but its all there. Living in northern Alberta, it just never really seemed necessary.

It was never built to be a show car as my philosophy is to build them to be driven, so the underneath looks like a road car but if you are the kind of person who likes to bring a car to a show and shine with bugs on the grill and a grin on your face this old barge may be for you. It just needs an owner who can give it the finishing touches that I have not done.

I'd ask more if it was show worthy and finished, as this is one rare, good looking, well optioned, big block baby with a well documented pedigree, but for the way it is, I am asking $27,000 Canadian. This will also include a disc brake conversion package that I have never quite installed yet either.

As you can tell my feelings are mixed about this, so I guess you could call me an unmotivated seller. PM me if interested, or to talk me out of it.

I have not posted anywhere else at this point as I thought I'd give you folks first crack at it.

One more thing I should have mentioned is that it is the kind of car you could drive home to anywhere once you buy it.

(Usual proviso about it being a 54 year old vehicle apply though.)

I will give a bit of TLC and make sure of that.  Unfortunately once I start driving it I'm going to regret trying to sell it.

Oh well.

This hurts 2 ways.

1) I hate to see you at a point you want to part with it.

2) I hate the idea that I have no place to keep this car.

(You know it would have a "man pedal" shortly after it came here....)

Hey Mark, thanks for posting a picture. I should have at least done that. I'm not really as good at selling as I am at buying.

As for Carl,  you have room for two as long as you get that new junk out of the garage.  You need the bookends to the 1966 Pontiac line don't you?

Now what are you going to pull the Airstreamer with?

The Airstream got sold a few years back so the only thing I will tow with it will be the 66 Beaumont on a Uhaul trailer so when I deliver the 66 Grande to the new owner I have a nice car to drive back home with copious cash bulging in my wallet!

It would be almost worth selling it just to have that setup cruising down the highway once in my life!

Just needs one more pedal...... Air, tilt, cruise, tach and gauges (gauges are pretty rare!), recliner, PW, headrests, so many cool options!

Yeah this car already knows its way around Manitoba. I remember seeing it there a few years ago in Winnipeg with a driver that was looking for his pillow.

A lot of the really cool ones I got from you, like that recliner. That is going to be hard to part with.

I'd love to have tilt, gauges and many other options in my current car but that would seem out of place. In your luxury cruiser all that stuff seems so natural. It just adds to the already very-cool factor.

The 66 is a gorgeous car and the pic with the 'Streamer' is one of my all time favourite pics.

Since your 66 was the feature car way back, I have often pictured a 'Streamer' trailing my 68........ but I have a F150 and a 35 Travel Trailer already, plus my wife commented "NO".

But, it is a very nice looking and solid car and we all know it would a be great car to own.

Those big old Pontiacs are really well suited to hauling a moderate trailer especially with the 396 and the F41 package and air shocks. I had bought a NOS towing harness for it and it just plugged into the taillights sockets really easily. I just had to connect the trailer brake controller. All that stuff is still on the car come to think of it

My car has a 3:31 gear  and that worked well. The engine would run at about 2300/2400 at 100 kms/hr. Made about 15 MPG with that setup, which was a pleasant surprise.

The only thing I did differently during the haul was to make sure the 700 r4 I have in the car stayed out of overdrive so as not to overheat it.  It still got pretty warm so an aux cooler and a tranny gauge would have been a good idea if I made a habit of it. As it was I had one of those infrared temp guns so was keeping pretty close track on the tranny and the rear diff. Would have preferred a four speed then for sure.

Worked really well and was pretty cool setup if I say so myself, I just wish I had taken a better picture than the one with the industrial traffic on Highway 881 to Fort MacMurray.

Hi it was great to meet you a couple weeks back, I already have a 66 Grande but would love to get my hands on your Willy's truck. I would take the Grande for a couple more rides before letting her go.

That will be the same day I head west with my truck and trailer. I'll be stealing your car.
