I had a covid-19 cleaning charge on the recent bodywork I had done to the 2+2.

I'm not surprised by this at all.

I understand the extra cost of COVID but the other side of it is, many people have less money now than pre-COVID so it's an even harder hit on them. At my job it is WAY more work to do the same job, it's a big hassle but my boss wouldn't dream of adding a surcharge because of it.

I've sucked up the costs of gloves, 80% alcohol hand wipe, aircraft door handle and control cleaning gear and a (very expensive) remote forehead thermometer but the operating theatre quality masks were a bridge too far. My members will have to pay for them. Our charges are already 30-40% lower than they should be. We haven't even had a break on the price of avgas, it remains at CAN$3.21 per litre - no change from last year - and we use a lot of it...............

I would not do business with anyone that is now going to charge me this Covid surcharge nonsense. I will just move on to someone that is not doing this shit.

Yes, but there is a cost to all those masks and cleaning equipment.

The public health guidelines and measures required of businesses to reopen are in Ontario and especially Toronto pretty darn near insurmountable. As someone who is responsible for a $7M  operation and has temporarily laid off 149 staff I am struggling right now with how we are going to pay for all the PPE, distancing and shield equipment, cleaning products and additional staff needed for monitoring and screening clients  not to mention the inefficiencies created by having less people in spaces that continue to require the same amount of overhead and rental payments. Add in fewer people to serve by virtue of the requirements for occupancy in spaces. Right now we all want to resume business but without the money to do these things it will be impossible. The problem is real and perhaps underappreciated by the consumers who are demanding a return to normal. I've got 149 people hoping we can reopen and they all want the same wage as before this happened and my cost structure has just gone through the roof. They also want a safe work environment and the ESA requires it in any case. Tell me where the money comes from.

Very well said , and although I do not like this extra fee , I understand the need . The other option would be that if these extra costs are the new requirement of doing business today , then perhaps we should all expect the prices of goods to increase across the board . Its has to go up, but sometimes we don't want to see it laid out for us . The market will dictate what the price will be .

Prices have and will go up. I've also noticed that prices on items "on sale" aren't as good as before Covid-19.

Wages have gone up for some "front line" workers. PPE and cleaning items have to be used and factor into costs of products for sale.

I don't mind paying a surcharge (as long as it is not a gouge-fest).

To those that want to pay more, go ahead and pay as much more as you want to pay. For the rest of us that are all ready fed up with paying more than anything is worth anyway................. well enough and enough is enough.

I think you'll find George that you will be paying more, one way or another.

Darryl, i am going to be even more selective than i ever was, in everything i buy. Many things now, i may just say........... forget it, i do not really need it. I will fight tooth and nail to avoid getting even more screwed than i was before all this freaking nonsense. Mary and i are now super scrutinizing everything, even the most minor things. This may be the new norm now. I hope not but if it is i can always drink more to compensate. Cheers.
