65 beaumont exhaust header issue

My dear CP folks,

here comes interesting issue I ran across my 65 Beaumont w/V8 engine install last year and now I'll have to clarify what I'm gonna do in the end to get the issue sorted out and get the car running.

As the car originally came with a L6 190 ci engine, I had to install the V8 option frame mounts in order to have the 327 engine sitting in the correct spot. So I purchased and installed a pair of GMK4030335641P which as I had researched where the correct ones for 65 A-Body cars with Chevy small block engines. Engine fits awesome... sits right where it has to, no issue at all to get the HEI distributor clearing the firewall, transmission matched the tranny crossmember just right... NO ISSUES HERE.

So after the engine is already in the engine bay I go and try to install a pair of midlength headers. I've got to recognize... they're not Patriots, Hookers, or any other reputable brand. Ebay purchased, black painted 1,5" primary tube and 3" collector, 64-77 A-Body application headers most probably from the CovidLand. According to the spec they should fit perfectly right in a 65 Beaumont with SBC engine, correct? Well... they didn't! The passenger side header touched the upper control arm, had to pry it just a little bit, some adjustments and voilá! It got in there and I could bolt it down to the head. The drivers side header however touched EVERYWHERE. Primaries touched the upper control arm, collector didn't find it's way between engine and frame. DISASTER! There is no way I could get it to bolt on to the head.

At the time, my car was stock (besides the engine swap which I think I'm doing correctly), no dropped suspension, nothing. So now the complete car is at the paint shop and we'll have to give the front end some closure, I'll have to figure out a way of getting those headers in there or otherwise just head directly towards cast manifolds for 65's.

Has anyone here installed midlength headers on 65 Beaumont's? Any special brand? Found any similar issues?

Will tremendously appreciate some orientation.

I used Hedman Full Length for a reasonably good fit. Mid Chassis style were not recommended for my '65 cHEVELLE with 327 and 4 speed.

What part number are those Hedman headers? What year is your car and what engine&tranny does it have in it?

Years ago I helped a buddy put a set of headers on a 1967 Beaumont sbc with 4 spd and I kinda recall having to pull the left side motor mount through bolt and loosen the right side and jack the motor up to get clearance and once in place then hook everthing back up.  It fit with lots of clearance once in place.  Forgot I think that we also had to remove the clutch bell crank.

I installed full length Patriots in my 66 on my 350 w/Turbo 350. No denting or mods required. I put them in at the same time as the motor so I dont know whether they would just drop in or require the engine to be lifted. Actually Ive never installed a set of headers that just dropped in from the top or wedged in from the bottom without a little work to get them in place. I had to dent the full length Hedmans for clearance in my Nove with 454 and 4sp. They went in with the motor as well with the front clip removed.
