I got a ? for any body that wants to answer it Finally went fir a drive in my convertible on wed. I used speed veil from my cell ph to compare the mileage on my car. Worked it out I,m about 15 mikes slower than my app from speed view. I changed rear end gears from 308 to 339 would that cause that much diffrents in my speed I know 4 speed 427 can answer this ?

Marty I changed from 3:08 to 3:73 gears and had to change the speedometer gear to a new 22 tooth as my speedometer was reading @60 mph but only actually doing 45 mph. GM Dealer has speedo gears and mine cost with tax $14.50. Check to see what # tooth /colour your original is then there is a formula on the internet based on tire size and gear ratio to give you a suggestion on which # tooth gear you need. Hope this is what you need to know.

Yes, what Arcadian says^^^^

Pull out your driven gear, take a peek into the trans and figure out how many teeth on your drive gear and we can likely get your speedometer to be very close to correct.

10 bolt diff, right? Likely the gears that went in are 3.36 ratio.

Unless Ive got it backwards, this might be a good excuse to get a spare set of shoes and tires with a larger diameter!

you may have to change the drive gear on "out put" shaft as well, which requires taking the tail shaft housing off transmission. It;s held on shaft with a clip. other alternative is to put a adapter on where cable hooks to transmission to reduce or increase gear drive!!!

Are you saying that when your actual speed is 60 mph your speedometer indicates 45 mph?

I removed my useless, unfixable clock and installed a GPS speedometer. between changing tyres, wheels, diff gears. was a good move. I really like it.
