My wife Lynda of 52 years and best friend of 54 years suffered a heart attack after finishing some lawn work last Monday at noon the 22 Jun.
Lynda was taken by ambulance to Clinton, Ontario hospital on Monday at 1 pm after suffering a fainting spell (blackout) and a mild heart attack shortly after. The staff at Clinton hospital were amazing and helped Lynda thru her very trying ordeal.
The paramedics were also very efficient and comforting especially when they mentioned Lynda's cardiogram was very erratic.
She was then transferred to St. Mary's General (Cardiac Care Unit) in Kitchener, Ontario.
(A nurse from Clinton hospital accompanied Lynda to St. Marys).
I was unable to visit at St. Marys (no visitor policy due Covid-19) but did talk to her on the phone and she was feeling much better and all vital signs were very good.
Tuesday evening she underwent some exploratory and additional tests to determine if a bypass or a stent would fix her up.
They installed two stents and I was talking to her via telephone about 30 mins later.
Wednesday morning after some checks she was released and I drove her home with her new batch of meds. Very unusual for her because up to this point at age 72 she was not taking any medication.
This can happen to anyone. Lynda exercises with a personal trainer (on line since Covid) five days a week and is in exemplary physical condition. Doctors suspect it is hereditary as her father died from a heart attack at age 59 back in 1966.
It is truly amazing what modern medicine can do today. From the paramedics to all hospital staff and the Cardiac doctors I was amazed and thankful for their professional, efficient and caring manner.
We were also very fortunate for the love and support received from friends and family.
Take care everyone and stay safe

Geez BJ, that is a real shocker for someone who it sounds like was taking pretty good care of herself. It is great it went so well and we hope her recovery continues to be as good as can be. We are lucky to have a good healthcare system that I think keeps improving in lots of areas of treatment. Lots give it a bad name from time to time but for the most part, they do a good job.

So glad to hear shes doing so well. What a scary experience. I know it can happen to any of us at any age, but as we get older, it becomes more probable and we see more examples around us.
The vast majority of our health care professionals are there because they truly care and it really makes a difference in a case like this.
It must have been tough with the Covid restrictions.
My wife just had to go through COVD testing so she could schedule a visit.
Daughter was outside behind a large plastic screen. Visit was scheduled for 25 minutes.
The nursing home director in Bowmanville Marnwood needs all the praise she and her staff can get as she shut the door to all visitors at the first indication of COVID
60 residents some 4 to a room...and 4 incidents of residents needing testing all proved negative.
Covid is serious stuff!
It is essentially very difficult when you are told you cannot visit.
My wife could talk on the phone and email but positively no physical touching. My wife and grandson donated 100 plastic shield masks to Marnwood for the support staff early on during the ramp up to covid protective equipment rules.
Hope your wife bounces back like the bunny.
My wife walks up to 90 minutes each day before she makes our breakfast
Has always been into fitness
Good to hear your Wife is okay. I hope she has many healthy years to come.

That was a scary reminder that we are all on a life-lease that we don't know when is up. We often take things and people for granted, and as the song goes, "we don't know what we've got 'till it's gone." Thank God it was dealt with, Bernie.

I'm glad to hear she's doing well. Seems like she's on the road to recovery, and I'm sure her prior focus on fitness helped her fight the unexpected.
I've spent a lot of time up close with the health care system over the past 4 years and I can agree with you and attest to the quality of medical care that is provided in our country.
sorry to hear but glad she's doing great. Tell her a nice glass of red wine is good medicine !
Dale @ NOS
Thanx dale - that is exactly what she was told concerning her cholesterol.......
Finishing my nightly glass of red wine right now. Hate the stuff, it tastes like crap. Doctor pretty much demands it and also a relative of mine who is a heart researcher says it's about the best heart medicine there is. My family is a heart attack family so I'm trying to break that pattern.

What wine do you drink, and what kind of flavours do you usually enjoy? Perhaps I could suggest a varietal for you...
"Alcohol may raise levels of good HDL cholesterol by as much as 5 to 15 percent, research shows and red wine is particularly beneficial because its polyphenol antioxidants may also lower LDL levels. If youre not into vino, grape juice can provide some of the same heart-healthy benefits.
Try this: Stick to one 5-oz glass of wine a day for women and two for men. For grape juice, Smithson suggests 8 oz per day of purple grape juice for women and 16 oz a day for men pick 100 percent fruit juice, not the sugar-added varieties. You can also snack on purple or red grapes, which contain the same antioxidants with the added benefit of fiber, notes Smithson."
Antioxidants in red wine called polyphenols may help protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart. A polyphenol called resveratrol is one substance in red wine that's gotten attention for its health benefits.
Alcohol itself may have some protective effects when consumed in moderation.
Resveratrol in red wine
Resveratrol might help prevent damage to blood vessels, reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) and prevent blood clots.
However, studies on resveratrol are mixed. Some research shows that resveratrol could be linked to a lower risk of inflammation and blood clotting, which can lower your risk of heart disease. But other studies found no benefits from resveratrol in preventing heart disease.
More research is needed to determine if resveratrol lowers the risk of inflammation and blood clotting.
Resveratrol in grapes, supplements and other foods
The resveratrol in red wine comes from the skin of grapes used to make wine. Because red wine is fermented with grape skins longer than white wine, red wine contains more resveratrol.
Simply eating grapes or drinking grape juice might be a way to get resveratrol without drinking alcohol. Red and purple grape juices may have some of the same heart-healthy benefits of red wine.
Peanuts, blueberries and cranberries also contain some resveratrol. It's not yet known how beneficial eating grapes or other foods might be compared with drinking red wine when it comes to promoting heart health. The amount of resveratrol in food and red wine can vary widely.
Resveratrol supplements also are available. Researchers haven't found any harm in taking resveratrol supplements, but your body can't absorb most of the resveratrol in supplements."

Bernie, I told my doctor how I do yard work, etc, also run up and down the stairs often in the parts department at work. She told me that unless I have a continued elevated heart rate for at least 20 minutes while exercising there's really no benefit to heart health. That suprised me.
My relative who I mentioned that teaches heart research says red grape juice is not the same as wine, unfortunately. I specifically asked him because I'm not that keen on alcohol (family history of alcohol abuse) but he says the wine is superior. I do exactly like you mentioned, I treat it as nasty tasty medicine and just suck it up.........literally!
