B body help with transmission

my 67 Caprice has 385 hp 427 , 400 turbo. And 308 gear. I want to move up to a 4 speed auto. What tranny and rear gear ratio should I go with?

I went with a 700r4 with 3.70 gears out back. Ive read were it was suggested to use 3.55 gears but everyone regretted not going to 3.70 or 3,73 or better all around street drive ability  you will end up with a final drive ratio of 2.61 where as  with a 3.50 you end up with 2.45 final ratio. It doesnt  sound like much but it will lug the engine at lower rpm .   .  My two cents. And go with a lockup torque convertor with a bypass switch.Im running a 2400 stall with a lockup switch connected to the 4 gear pressure port.

What are you looking for out of the car Kevin?  Will it be a "performer"with a modified engine, or just a cruiser with a stock 427?

I would think a 427 with a stock engine will easily handle something like a 3.31 or 3.55 gear with overdrive because they offered 2.29 and 2.56 gears behind the 427's in 1969. Also, stock wheel and tire combination? (height?)

For info my 66 396 has a 700r4 with the stock 3:31's and with that setup I get about 2300 rpm at about 120 kph with more or less stock tire height.

Still lots of go power and reasonable mileage. (like 20-21 MPG)

Heres proof.

That one mod really transformed the car into an all around long distance cruiser. I also used it to pull a 21 foot Airstream to Winnipeg from Northern Alberta with no problem. (Just didn't use the Overdrive for the pull)

I have to say though that I have never tried smoking the tires with it. I think its quite capable of it, I just don't seem to want to anymore considering how much it took to put it together and how old some of the components are.
