There is a capacity sign on these bridges, then some are 40-50 years old and need replacement, this one now does. They obviously knew the risk by having that fellow walking in front of it, although that may have been due to a tight fit? Ive seen a few fall down when a boom truck forgot to tuck the boom down. Big brown spot on the drivers seat and the pants of that guy walking.

All people living on the island now have their cars effectively stranded because of these boneheads,

https://globalnews.ca/news/7150678/steel-truss-bridge-near-canso-n-s-collapses/

"Nova Scotias Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal (TIR) said in a press release that Alva Construction was recently awarded a tender to replace the steel truss bridge this summer and contractors were moving equipment when it collapsed."

"The province says that the local fire department is providing residents assistance on an emergency basis as TIR works to re-establish permanent access to the island."

How about that. The company that was setting up to replace that bridge were the ones that collapsed it.

I had a quick look on streetview, and I can't see any capacity signs on the road...regardless the company should have been privy to at least that.

Glad nobody was seriously injured.

Article in the paper says bridge rated at 41500 kgs, truck would weigh 9000 kg, crane maybe 40,000= OOPS. Crane was being moved over the bridge to work on replacing the bridge. The company that did this has been around for about 30 years, I bet their engineer is in deep doodoo.

On one hand, you can say the replacement is ahead of schedule now. The company should get a bonus...

Actually, I can imagine the trouble it'll be to recover all that mess now. It looked like low tide when it fell. It'll be an environmental issue when it comes up.
