1962 Parisienne 283 startup after maybe 20+ years not on the highway

Can one of you smart people get my link to work please, thanks, Don

Thought i'd try this here in the Lounge to see if my video was working. My plan is to part this car out when I am ready- a bunch of things on the go. I have someone who has spoken for the motor, the front bumper, and the generator and voltage regulator.

I tried to start it before, the carb leaked and I found a rusted off stud. Repaired that and Glenn Musgrave loaned me a 2gc to replace the Cater that was on it (see ad Ashmore had this car for sale in Pontiac parts for sale forum). I cleaned the plugs (they were pretty old and ugly) and squirted some oil in the cylinders, hooked up an outboard gas tank to the intake side of the fuel pump. Pumped gas using the outboard tank bulb, until gas came out of the line at the carb. Hooked that line up to the carb. Checked that the points looked ok, assumed that the coil and wires would work.biggrinbiggrin Etc.

Poured a bit of gas in the carb, it rolled over about 4 turns max, fired. A little more gas in the carb and away she went. This video was taken about 1-2 minutes after it fired up. It was idling on its own, if you stabbed the gas a bit, it backfired a bit, but also has a leaky exhaust. After idling a bit, it didn't backfire much and din't smoke. I had filled it with anti freeze, left the cap off, it was circulating things nicely. The cold light was on and went off after it warmed up. Oil light works with key and never came on while the 283 was running. I let it idle for about 10 minutes, temp was at 125F on my IR gun. No brakes but I tried it in drive and reverse, moved both ways. Shut it off, just touch the key and it fires right up.

I figured you all would enjoy this..............

Don
