Whats this Pontiac key

I had the misfortune of breaking off an ignition key for my 69 Gran Prix and thankfully had a second key so I went to the local GM dealer to have more cut

The service guy noticed another key on the ring and asked about it,saying he's never seen a Pontiac key with that logo.

I though it was a trunk key and I tried it and that was a no-go,so no damn trunk key for the car.

Its got electric trunk so im ok for now.

That's an aftermarket key, I've got a few of them somewhere in their original packaging. Is there a letter on there somewhere?

I don't think so, just a regular aftermarket piece.  The letter I was asking about would be on the blade.  Different letters were for different years.

Ignition key:

E - 1969

J - 1970

A - 1971

C - 1972

Then they started at E again.  Same concept for the trunk key.

So it is a commemorative key. Did you try them in the GM Executive washroom? wink

1969 is definitely square key ignition oval key trunk combo. I wonder if it could have been for a spare tire lock (P19), or locking gas cap (P32)?

As mentioned, It's an aftermarket novelty/trinket.

Here's another.

No, I don't think it's a commemorative key, just something you could by at the hardware store by the key-cutting machine.

Back to the aftermarket novelty/trinkets, I have 2 of them for my 1970.  They're the same, and the photo shows the front & back side of the packaging.   These are a "J" code key for 1970.
