I know of very very few under-30 year olds who have an interest in the 50's and 60's cars, at least enough interest to own, maintain and drive them.

Different times, different culture.  I recall when I was a teenager, just about every guy liked cars, even those who weren't gearhead types.  Those teenage impressions last a lifetime and are probably what brought a lot of people into the hobby who had never been car guys in the past.

Today, my impression is that most young people aren't really into cars.  There are some, you see them on the streets, but even then to those kids their nostalgia runs back to the 1980s and 90s, not the 1950s or 1960s.  You can't expect the average kid to revere a 1966 whatever, unless they had personal experience with one, or are just such an extreme gearhead that they went there on their own.

Regardless, even for us 'older' guys who were into the cars back then, the cost of the hobby has gone through the roof.  No 20 or 30 year old is going to have 30 to 50 thousand dollars to plunk down on a car that they can only use half the year, and even then they are not really practical daily drivers for most kids.

Life moves on, time changes, people get into different things and old things get relegated to the past.  It's the way it's always been and will continue to be.

I have met some young folks over the years at car shows that really appreciate old iron. When i do, it really sparks me up to talk to them and listen to their opinions on vintage iron. Sadly, it is very seldom and rare but i do get it why. Every generation has its thing.

My son has a shop with parts and equipment and hardware and tools for building computers so he does with computers what I did with cars. Who do I call every time I have a phone of computer problem, my son, who does he call when his car is acting up, me. It works out pretty well.

Having said that he seems to have shown a remarkable interest in the LeMans since and during Project Wheel and Tire upgrade. He really started to appreciate the power, sound  and "narley" look of the car.
