Summer 1973 my dad was living with us at our first house and planted this clematis...... We moved 33 1/2 years later to our present home and wanted to transplant my dad's clematis.... Everyone said it will die...........so I thought, nothing to lose and dug it up and transplanted it some 15 years ago..... Here it is summer 2020 and the clematis is still going strong...............every time I go by it, I say 'hi dad'........
That is really an astonishing connection to your late father. I could have grabbed a snipping from the euonymus that was climbing all over the one side of my parent's house when they went into assisted living, but there really isn't a place on our house that would work.
You know what was amazing? The 2000-year old olive trees in Gethsemane (Jerusalem).
At home I am battling Japanese Beetles, they are into destroying roses. Bought a trap, caught many. Still attacking. Moved the trap, almost no more on our roses. Also the grubs have been bad due to the hot & dry summer.

We have a clematis that we transplanted from our previous ground floor apartment 15 years ago still going strong.
Now we have the Japanese beetle issue. Spent money last year on fool proof chemicals that had non effect.
My wife has been shaking the leaves and crushing the nasty bugs.
Our whole apartment complex is burden by these beetles.
I have an Oak tree that I dug up out of a ditch 7 years ago. My Mom supervised me, sitting in my truck. It was her last visit to PEI. She passed last October. Now the Oak is at least 7 feet high ... Mom's Oak. I'll get a picture.
