1976 Chevelle with F41 suspension for sale on Kijiji - "Wikipedia Certified"

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/winnipeg/chevelle-malibu-se-special-edition-wikipedia-certified/1518268696

interesting ad - the only parts of the car shown are the sway bars - the only picture of an actual car looks to be a showroom poster of one of those cars

I remember F41 cars getting a lot of favourable press in the 1970's in Car and Driver magazine which typically had a european car bias at that time

The seller has 48 listings - judging by what else he is selling he is a bit of an accumulator ( would love to know how a rim from a Crossley ended up in Thunder Bay ( my old home town)

There were a few of those Olympic themed in these parts back in the day. I think there is still at least one around, though I haven't seen it for more than 10 years.

This isn't the first time we've seen this ad, at least he is consistent with his pricing.

It's a thing now.  10 years ago any old car priced above $30K, and we'd say they are crazy - or it would have been some one-off high dollar Hemi or COPO something or other that just sold at Barrett Jackson.  But here are 7 pages of them currently on kijiji...

https://www.kijiji.ca/b-classic-cars/canada/c122l0?price=60000__&price-type=fixed

More power to them, I hope they get it, but it seems like things took a jump somewhere along the line when I had my back turned... wink

The true market value is not the asking price, but the actual sold price.

Too bad places like kijiji don't give you a "sold" price........if it ever does sell.

Certain cars do sell for their asking price,I would say most jump on the  selling bandwagon thinking their car

automatically has some great value.......and as you stated,we all hope they get what they are asking.

When did GM switch from rivets to screws to hold the plate in place?

Nothing has really changed in that regard, 20 years ago asking price was typically greater than selling price, but the only point I was trying to make is that asking prices seem to have taken a large jump (purely anecdotal as I don't have data to back it up) in the last 5 - 10 years.  To my mind, this would indicate that expectations of a large selling price have increased.  Either that or there are more people "fishing" these days.

Regardless, overall higher prices tend to result in more cars being saved rather than used for parts, so it's a good thing.  The downside is that more cheaper, 'less desirable' cars (like 4 doors) tend to be used up as donor cars for the high end 2 doors...

I think a big part of it is the fact that Kijiji is free. Anyone can toss their car up there for big money and see what happens. Back in the day you had to pay for an ad so you were a bit more realistic on price.

I'll take two!! Not. For that kind of $$$$ I could buy a new F8 Green Scat Pac Shaker 6m Challenger. Why would someone pay that kinda money for something that is only worth maybe- I mean maybe $10K. Rectal Cranial Inversion going on there........

RE: 1976 Chevelle with F41 suspension for sale on Kijiji - "Wikipedia Certified"

I hate to say it but that car (car, what car?) has nothing over a similar year Monte Carlo. All Montes came with the F41 and then some, like a high-caster front geometry. What's a mint '76 Monte Carlo worth? F41 should kick a Chevelle's value up a notch, but not to the stratosphere.

An Olympic Edition Chevelle would be noteworthy today. When they were new I thought they were silly because I thought they were destined to become dated in 1977. People bought them thinking they'd be collectible, but they failed to grasp what truly makes a car collectible. I like them today, mostly because against the odds any have survived, not because of any legendary reputation. They were sturdy cars but their soft trim sucked (cracked dashes, obnoxious plastic on the door panels, ripped seats because the foam cushion really compresses).

I didn't like the colonnade styling much when it was new, except for the 73 Grand Am and the 73 Cutlass, which were well executed out of the gate.  But over time it's grown on me. I'd love to own a 73-75 Grand Am or Cutlass, but I also like the 73-75 Chevy Laguna and Monte Carlo and would be happy to have any one of these cars.
