Stunningly beautiful car Bruce! Really cool that it has been in your family for so many years...makes it almost like a one owner car! The color combination is really nice too! Does anybody know if it was an option or what determined the console color? So many I see as black, green, or red, that when I see one that is done in a light/white color to match the seat and door panel color, I wonder if that was something you could order? Were dashes ever done in a light/white color? Just curious! Again, super nice car Bruce!

Certain interior colors would have been available with the 2+2  SierraYellow exterior.   The only interiors I have seen are this Sandalwood, and black houndstooth cloth.

As Clint pointed out, the original paint colour was Sierra yellow and I opted for a butternut yellow when it was repainted. The Sandalwood would probably have been the choice colour i would think for a yellow exterior, personally I have not seen the houndstooth cloth interior other than in pictures ...I am aware of another very rare carousel red 1970 2+2 BB convert that also has the same sandalwood interior. I agree that the impala SS interior looks great in that car....

Here's a shot of Sandalwood interior in my Sierra Yellow convertible from a number of years ago.  The seats were recovered in the early 80's and aren't the correct shade, and will someday be redone.  Console & door panels are correct.

I guess what I was really curious about, is what determined the console matching the interior color? My car came with parchment color interior, but a black console. Maybe they didnt make a parchment colored console? I know, that when I used to restore these consoles, the plastic they molded it in, was the color of the interior. In other words, they werent painted. Just wondering if the console was matched with the interior ONLY if they manufactured one in that color?

I would have to defer to the experts on the forum as I dont know the answer to the question about interior colours.

Beautiful car! I don't know about 1970, but my 1969 with a white interior had a black console. Traditionally I'd assume the console matches the dash, and the dash has to be dark to avoid reflection. Looks nice in white though!

Beautiful car, I love those colors that just speak of the year they were built. The 400 2bbl smallblock replaced the 396 2 bbl of 69, both were rated 265 horse and ran regular fuel. I suspect they were targeted at budget conscious towers who wanted the extra torque of bigger displacement but still running on regular fuel and with a low upfront option cost.

consoles generally followed the color of the interior but earlier white interior cars ran black carpet, dash, console etc. Sandalwood was in that grey zone that it was quite light but not white. It was just dark enough to have a nearly monochromatic interior including the console. Interestingly when true white interiors came back into vogue in the early 70's they had black dashes and carpet like earlier cars but the consoles were now white rather than black. By 73 GM started offering two color interiors especially with white where you could have white seats and door panels but instead of black dash, carpet etc you could change it to red, blue etc.

My 69 LeMans ragtop is Butternut (actually called Mayfair Maize in Pontiac lingo).  In this case it has the 69 Parchment interior (so black dash, rug etc).  This color paint looks very different in different light situations, soft light makes it look like yellow tinged white while direct sun makes it look like like a bright yellow.
