Looked at this 61 4 door hardtop tonight

Is this worth buying for parts? What should I pay? I would strip and sell parts, I have no use for the car. Please don't tell me it's fixable, it's been under flood water, parked since about 1978.

More pictures to follow.

Worth it for a few parts for sure.  Gotta be priced under 200 dollars tho.

Personally I'm liking what the car was.
Lots of usable parts but not being the most popular/common year and model there will be a small market for the usable parts.

Carl, did you have a serious bender with your buddy's recently. Why why why. I do not see any 66 Poncho parts there and where is the four on the floor. Does your wife know about this. confuse no yawn.

Pretty much what I was thinking. I had $150 in my head. I don't know what scrap value is right now. I suspect that is where it will go if I don't buy it. It's an estate deal, his dad passed away a year or two ago. I've known the car since about the early 70's. When he parked this car it was because he bought the green 69 Grande Parisienne 4 door hardtop fully loaded 427 car I've talked about in the past. He drove the 427 car for only a few years, then parked it a few years and I purchased it from him. He said it was too hard on gas...

I had it in my head this 61 was a 283 car but I hadn't seen it for about 40 years so I was disappointed when I walked up to it tonight and realized it had no "V" on the fenders.

Is there any value in 261 brackets/pulleys etc? I did see it has the Canadian only ignition coil but I'm not so sure it would be any good.

No PS, no PB. Oil filter cannister sure is nice though eh?

Haha, only reason I have interest in it is I suspect it will get shredded because I doubt he has any interest in dealing with strangers. His grandpa and my dad/uncles were very good friends so there's a connection from way back.

But you are right, an inline 6/auto in my driveway or garage? Not so sure if it will happen...

The frame might be toast, but there's lots of good parts for a guy restoring a 4 door hardtop!

I'm hoping but if there's not much interest I may just let it go to the shredder.

If its a flood car, would the metal in the seats be beyond saving? May be only the front clip, stainless trim, bumpers, and the non 4 door stuff that is sellable? Very few of the 4 door hardtop made so those unique parts may be hard to find a buyer for. Rear quarters good looking, may be usable on a 2 door? Trunk lid good? If floor, rockers, and trunk are toast, the $150 is reasonable and Id strip all the parts and get rid of the body and
Likely frame. Those rear quarters would give me hope that some things may be better than at first glance? May have posi?

Id have a good look under it and buy it if its solid enough to load on a trailer. 61 parts are hard to find and there could be a lot of good parts there.

Looking at the pics, I'm amazed at how nice the chrome looks for a car that's been sitting so long.  The pot metal stuff doesn't even look pitted.

Having been in a flood and then sitting, I would question whether any of the mechanical/electrical stuff would be any good if water got into it.  Rust-wise, even the exhaust pipe coming off the manifold doesn't look that bad, surprisingly.  Hard to say what it would look like underneath - if it were out east, it would be toast, but given how solid it looks, you never know.

If that car was here in Timmins I would buy it in a minute and pay $300. I live in the country and have an area where I park cars out of sight. There are a lot of good parts on this 1961 and if the engine can turn over that alone is worth the money. I would strip it as I sold the parts and hold on to it until the price of steel goes up.

I really doubt the engine will be good. I'm pretty sure it will have flooded. However I pulled the stick and it wasn't overfull which did seem odd to me if the car had floodwater in it, which I know it did.

I'd grab it anyway for that price range,   be sure to check for the "P" case diff.  stranger things have happened with 6cyl cars.

Strip off all the front and rear trim,  the side mouldings with the letters are early or late versions of 1961,  there are a fair number of 61s running around this area.   My friend adam has owned most of them at one point or another.   Back up lights are work getting if not wrecked,   not much use of motor parts tho,  just save the filter and maybe the rad.  also i think 61 had a unique carburetor due to the low hood,  guys may be looking.   Even if you just strip in on your trailer for  a day or 2 then scrap the rest,  atleast some of the car will have been saved.

Ya I see a lot of good trim, taillights bezels etc...

That would have been a sharp car back when new, that 4 door hardtop roof line is nice on the 61s.

It still amazes me how many intact parts cars still exist in the west. I went to Flatla's in AB and Elfros in Sask last year and there were still a lot of parts to be had, and possibly a handful which could be saved.

Are there any other yards out west that may hold similar treasures?

My deal on the car fell through. Apparently they use their farm yard for the odd photo shoot and this old car is one of the props they use. They aren't willing to give it up yet. We've agreed on a price, we just don't know when!

There are countless hoards in Saskatchewan... some well known and advertised, many obscure and private.

Sounds like the place to be if you are a collector ... or a fellow hoarder, as I am sometimes labelled by family members.
