Need advice from GEN II LT1 experts

Upper heater core hose sprung a leak on my Corvette LT1 350 at the water pump just above the Optispark. Of course the Optispark had a nice shower and I really don't know how long it was leaking on it because I had to stop because the car started backfiring and misfiring to the point I had to pull it over just 8 blocks from home. When I opened the bonnet thats when I saw the leaking hose. Got the hose repaired but the backfiring and missing persisted. very bad, it was a struggle to get the car in my garage due to stalling and bucking and kicking up a fuss.

I parked it and tried through the weeek to start it with no real difference. Today I tried it and it was running near perfectly. Is it possible that the Optispark dried out and now its more or less fine again?

What's the advice out there, change the Opti, maybe the coil too, its right there. Ignition Control Module? This is a 1993 with 63,000 miles.

This is a perfect example of why WD-40 exists. Many years ago i had a neighbour with a FORD Astrovan that would not start if it was raining out.

One day he managed to get it started and pulled out into the street and stalled it. After watching him curse at it in the rain , i went out with a can of WD40 and sprayed down the distributor which was mounted in the deep rear of engine compartment. It started right up and r

he never had the problem again. Just my 2 cent story.

Carl will know this better than I, but I don't think Optisparks are available from GM anymore, and the offshore ones weren't very good! Try the WD-40 route.

I was away for the weekend but went out when I got home and started the Corvette, the engine is running fine, of course the WD-40 can I grabbed was low so only got a short burst in there, will reload the WD-40 and give it a good dousing.

Update: Had some time to drive te car tonight and this is one of the coincidences that send you down the wrong path. I now know that the coolant leak and misfiring and backfiring are not related. The car drove fine with power and as smooth an idle that an LT1 has until it got up to operating temperature, the more I drove the worse it got so this condition now has me thinking bad Coil or ICM. I think that's what I'm going to start with might as well change both since the they are basically a unit once assembled on the engine. Thoughts?

do u have any codes? to help narrow it down. had several Lt1 caprices. and what youre describing sounds very optispark related. but unfortunately the symptoms are the same for other issues. the leaky water pump is a known flaw thats wiped many opti sparks out. ive had zero luck with the cheap off shore replacement. couldnt get one from gm. msd version was better

great motor. very annoying issue when it acts up

Ya, I've got an OBD II scanner so its the older system, I'll have to take it in or grab an OBD I somewhere.

I suppose changing all the ignition pieces will fix it. Opti, ICM, coil, plugs and wires. I'll try for the codes first, its garaged, season for top down Corvettes pretty much over now but I don't want it sitting all winter in this state.
